IIT Kanpur Latest Update: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has recorded a total of 989 full-time offers including Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) in the first phase of 2023-24 placement session. The offers were extended to 913 students, including 22 international offers.

IIT Kanpur: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, popularly known as IIT Kanpur, was established in 1959 with the assistance of a pool of nine US research institutes. The institute is a public research university awarded with the status of Institute of National Importance by GOI under the Institutes of Technology Act. The institute was the first to offer Computer Science education. It is ranked #4 in the engineering category, #5 in the overall category, and #6 in the research category by NIRF Ranking 2023. The QS World University Ranking 2023 has also placed the institute at #264th position among the top colleges of the world. 

The research institute offers multiple courses across several specializations through its 6 faculties and 31 departments. Out of the eight courses offered by the institute, the flagship courses are B.Tech, M.Tech, and M.Sc. JEE Advanced scores are used to determine admission to B.Tech. and BS programs at IIT Kanpur, which is followed by JoSAA counselling. While admission to M.Tech. and MS programs is based on GATE performance, subsequently COAP/CCMT counselling. IIT JAM & CAT scores are also acknowledged by the institute for admission to M.Sc. & MBA programs. Last year, IIT Kanpur seat intake for its flagship B.Tech program was 929, while for the B.S course the institute has accepted admission to 281 seats.

The institute provides various facilities to its students in a duration of 4-year program for which it charges fees.  The B.Tech tuition fee at IIT Kanpur was INR 9,61,030 for the class of 2021–22. Students who fall within the SC, ST, or PH categories are exempt from paying tuition in full. For students from less affluent homes, the institution also provides scholarships and financial help. With the merit-plus-means scholarship, students whose parents earn less than INR 4.5 lakhs can get a full remission of tuition fees as well as a Rs 1000 per month allowance for the duration of the program. However, in order to qualify for the award, beneficiaries must keep their CPI over 6.5.

Since past years, the highest package offered to candidates during IIT Kanpur placement drives has jumped by a record number. The highest package during placement 2021–22 was INR 2.06 CPA, with INR 1.2 CPA being offered domestically. More than 1300 offers were made, of which 49 exceeded INR 1 crore annually.

IIT Kanpur Location

The IIT Kanpur campus is located 15 kilometers from Kanpur city on the Grand Trunk Road and is sprawled across 420 hectares of land donated to the Institute by the UP Government in 1960. In 1963, the institution relocated to the aforementioned site. Mr. Achyut Kanvinde, a Delhi-based architect, designed and planned the campus. The institution is around 80 kilometers from the Lucknow Airport and approximately 18 kilometers from the Railway Station. Students can hire taxis from both the train station and the airport to get to campus.

• The institute offers B.Tech, BS and integrated courses at undergraduate level.

IIT Kanpur M.Sc/M.Sc+PhD Admission

• Candidates seeking admission to the M.Sc & integrated M.Sc+PhD program are required to take the IIT JAM examination.

• Register and Participate in the counselling round by filling up the preferences of colleges
• If shortlisted, IIT Kanpur will call the candidate to pay the admission fee and confirm the admission.

IIT Kanpur MBA Admission

• Appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) examination and obtain a valid score.
• Apply for the MBA program on the institute’s official website.
• If shortlisted, the institute will call you for the interview round.
• Final merit list will be released following the PI round.
• Once shortlisted, submit the fees and confirm the admission.

IIT Kanpur PhD Admission

• Candidates who are eligible must submit an application form to the IIT Kanpur's PhD admission division.
• Following that, the candidates would be required to take a written test administered by the institute
• Following that, applicants who pass the written exam will be approached for an interview, and those who pass the interview will be called for document verification.
