Aligarh Muslim University: Formerly known as Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, Aligarh Muslim University is a central university, established in 1920, recognized as the Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. The university has 13 faculties, 117 teaching departments, 3 academies, and 21 centres and institutions spread out over a 467.6 acre area. There are more than 37327 students enrolled there, as well as 1,686 teachers and 5,610 non-teaching employees. The university has established three new study centres outside of Aligarh in the states of West Bengal's Murshidabad, Kerala's Malappuram, and Bihar's Kishanganj.

Latest updates: The online applications for admissions to B.Tech and B.Arch courses offered by Aligarh Muslim University have commenced. Candidates interested in applying for AMU B.Tech/B.Arch programmes can apply on the official website. The last date to apply is April 14, 2024. The exam dates have not been announced by the official authorities as of now. 

According to the India Today-MDRA Best Universities Survey 2022, Aligarh Muslim University came up at 4th position. AMU has also been ranked first in the nation for having the most PG Courses available. AMU was ranked #2 in the category of Government Universities in the country with 15 patents issued during the last three years, and #3 with 36 "patents filed." According to the NIRF India Rankings for 2022, AMU ranked #11 in the university category and #19 in the overall category. The university has been placed in the range of 1001-1200 by QS World Ranking 2023. The university is recognized by UGC, NAAC & AIU.

More than 300 courses in both classic and contemporary fields of study are available at AMU. In addition to offering standard courses like BA and BSc, the institution is also known for its MBBS and B.Tech programmes. For admission into the majority of the courses, AMU administers its own entrance test (AMUEE). To get admitted to the AMU medical programmes, applicants must take the NEET entrance test. Through its Center For Distance And Online Education, AMU also provides distance learning.

At AMU, the tuition fee of a BA (Hons) programme is INR 1.75 lakh, while the fee of a B.Sc. (Hons) programme is INR 3.6 lakh. For the B.Tech. and B.Arch. programmes, prospective students must pay INR 10.63 lakh and INR 13.27 lakh, respectively. Numerous scholarships are offered by the institution to help students pay their fees. Students that are less fortunate financially can apply for these scholarships. The Maqsood Hussain Khan Memorial Scholarship, the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for ST/SC, the Salim Scholarship, and other scholarships are available to applicants with less financial means.

For undergraduate studies, the institution has 530 seats available in the Faculty of Arts, 741 in the Faculty of Social Science, 280 in the Faculty of Commerce, and 885 in the Faculty of Science. Similarly, at the PG level, there are 390 seats in the Faculty of Science, 64 in the Faculty of Commerce, 365 in the Faculty of Social Science, and 281 in the Faculty of Arts.

AMU offers a distinct training and placement department for its students, which is in charge of helping them find job prospects and be hired by reputable organizations. In 2022, 180 companies visited the university campus and made 12.24% more employment offers than they had the year before. This year, the average package was INR 3.5 LPA, with the highest package granted to any student being INR 20 LPA.

Aligarh Muslim University is located in the city of Aligarh around 130 kilometers southeast of Delhi. Getting to the city is easiest by taking the Delhi-Howrah train line or the Grand Trunk Road from Delhi International Airport. There is a public transportation or taxi service available to take you to the University Campus, which is 2 kilometers from Aligarh Railway Station.

AMU Admission

AMU admission to its various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses is done on the basis of entrance examinations conducted by the university. The University also accepts CUET UG, CUET PG, GATE and other examination scores for admission to its various programs. The detailed admission process at Aligarh Muslim University is as follows:

AMU B.Tech/B.Arch Admission

• Candidates seeking admission to the B.Tech/B.Arch program are required to appear for the AMUEEE examination conducted by the university.
• Following the examination, the university releases the merit list.
• Selected candidates are invited for document verification
• Pay the admission fee and confirm your admission

AMU B.A (H)/B.Sc (H)/B.Voc Admission

• Candidates seeking admission to any of the aforementioned programmes are required to appear for the CUET UG exam conducted by NTA.
• Candidates are required to obtain a valid score and apply for admission at the university
• The institute will release the merit list of selected candidates based on the marks obtained by them in the CUET UG examination
• Selected candidates are then called for document verification and submission of fees.

AMU PG Admission

• Candidates seeking admission to PG programs are required to take the departmental test conducted by the specific university’s department.
• The institute will release the merit list following the successful conclusion of the examination.
• Shortlisted candidates will be then called for document verification and submission of fees.

AMU MBA Admission

• Appear for the entrance examination conducted by the university and obtain a valid score.
• Selected candidates are then called for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview round.
• Next, the final merit list will be released based on which admission will be granted to students.

AMU BA-LLB Admission

• Appear for the entrance examination conducted by the university or candidate must have a CLAT score
• The merit list will be released based on which students will be called for the document verification.
• Submit the admission fee and confirm your admission

AMU MBBS/BDS Admission

• Candidates seeking admission to the MBBS/BDS degree at AMU must have a valid NEET score
• Fill out the MBBS/BDS application form available on the official website of AMU
• Based on marks obtained by candidates, the university will release the merit list.
• Selected candidates are then called for the document verification.
• Pay the admission fees and confirm your admission

AMU M.Tech/M.Arch Admission

• Appear for the GATE examination and obtain a valid score
• Fill out the M.Tech/M.Arch admission form available on the university website
• The university will release the merit list based on marks obtained by students in the GATE examination.
• Selected candidates will be called for the Personal Interview round
• Thereafter, the final merit list will be released
• Shortlisted candidates are then called for document verification and submission of fees.

Note: Candidates lacking a valid GATE score are required to appear for the entrance examination conducted by the university.

AMU M.Phil/PhD Admission

• Appear for the entrance examination conducted by the university.
• Following the entrance examination, the institute will release the merit list 
• Selected candidates are required to appear for the Personal Interview round.
• Thereafter, the final merit list will be released
• Shortlisted candidates are then granted admission after document verification and submission of fees.

Note: Candidates having a valid UGC-JRF/CSIR NET or any equivalent exam’s score are not required to take the university’s entrance test.

AMU Facilities & Infrastructure

The institution provides a variety of amenities to its students to ensure that they have a comfortable stay on campus. The institution ensures that students do not have to rely on amenities located outside of campus. The following are some of the amenities provided to students:

Hostel Facilities: The university campus includes comfortable and spacious accommodation facilities for both students and faculty members. There are separate hostels for boys and girls with a number of recreational facilities available.
