National Institute of Technology Calicut was established in 1961 as Regional Engineering College Calicut in the Kozhikode district of Kerala, India. It got its present name in 2002 along with the university status. The institute is also recognized as an Institution of National Importance by the government of India. NIT Calicut Location
Situated at the foothills of the Western Ghats, the institute is located nearly 22 kilometers North East of Calicut city in the Indian state of Kerala. The campus is well-connected to the city and covers an area of approximately 120 hectares. To reach the campus from the Calicut railway station, it is advisable to go to the “Palayam” bus stand, there one can find private buses running every 5 minutes from 6 AM to 9 PM to Mukkam via Kunnamangalam and NIT Calicut. NIT Calicut Admissions
The seat intake varies for different streams. For instance, the seat intake for CSE is 179, while for Mechanical it's 207. Some streams have less than 50 seat intake, those include Biotechnology Engineering and Engineering Physics, both of them having merely 37 seats. The lowest seat intake is of Materials Science and Engineering, which is just 30. Admission applications are received by the institution from all over the country from various candidates. NIT Calicut Facilities
The 300-acre NIT campus in Calicut is covered in lush greenery and has all the major and minor student support amenities.
Hostels- With a total capacity of more than 4500 students, the campus comprises 13 boys' hostels and 4 girls' hostels. A modest canteen is also located on the hostel premises. Indoor sports facilities and guest room requirements are also provided.
