IIT JAM 2026 exam will be held on February 15, 2026 by IIT Bombay. The Registration process has started from September 5, 2025 onwards. Candidates can register for the exam by applying on the official website till October 20.

IIT JAM 2026: Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT) Bombay has released the official notification for Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM). As per the notification, IIT JAM 2026 Exam will be conducted on February 15, 2026 to provide admission to masters degree and integrated Phd programmes in MSc nad MS. The IIT JAM 2026 Application Form has been released online on the official website on September 5, 2025. Interested candidates can now fill the registration form by creating a registerd account at the JOAPS portal. The last date to fill out the JAM 2026 application form is extended till October 20, 2025.

To be Eligible for IIT JAM 2026, Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree or who will be appearing in the final examination of their qualifying degree in 2026 are eligible to appear in JAM 2026. There is no age limit to appear for IIT JAM 2026 exam. The IIT JAM 2026 Admit Card will be released on January 5, 2026 on the official website.

As for the IIT JAM 2026 exam pattern, the examination will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) where the questions will appear in a random sequence on the screeen. There will be 60 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. The entire question paper will be divided into three sections mainly A, B and C. All sections are compulsory.

Qustions in each section will be of the following types: Section A is Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) where only one option is correct out of the four given choices and also Section A has negative marking. Section B is Multiple Select Question (MSQ) in this section there may be one or more than one correct choice and no negative or partial marking. Section C is Numerical Answer Type (NAT) in this, The answer is a real number which needs to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keyboard available on the computer screen, No choices are shown for these type of questions and there is no negative marking.

Those who successfully clear the exam will then go ahead for the IIT JAM counselling. The admission process will begin once the counselling sessions are concluded. The JAM exam is open for all applicants, irrespective of their nationality. The exam offers around 3000 seats to candidates, based on their All India Ranks.

IIT JAM 2026: Eligibility

IIT JAM eligibility criteria must be fulfilled by candidates who wish to secure admission to master’s program in IITs. Interested students can check the eligibility requirements for IIT JAM below:

  • Candidates must have completed their undergraduate degree or must be appearing for their final examination in 2026
  • They must have completed all the parts of their undergraduate degree before applying
  • They also must share the proof of completion of their undergraduate degree while applying for the test

Admission is offered on the basis of All India Rank (AIR) assigned to candidates as per the merit list. The final merit list is released after the conclusion of the IIT JAM Counselling process. 

The IIT JAM Admit Card 2026  will be released on January 5, 2026. Students appearing for the exam must keep checking the official website jam2026.iitb.ac.in for official notifications. The admit card will contain the following credentials:

  • Candidate’s name
  • Photograph
  • Registration number
  • Signature
  • Subjects/test papers along with their codes

Candidates have to carry a hard copy of the admit card along with them to the examination centre on the day of examination.

IIT JAM 2025 will be a computer based test (CBT), conducted in 100 cities all over the country. The test covers seven subjects of science, divided into seven test papers including:

  6. Mathematical Statistics
  7. Physics

Candidates can appear in maximum two tests out of the seven. IIT JAM exam pattern includes objective-type questions. These questions are further divided into three types: multiple choice questions (MCQs), multiple select questions (MSQs), and numerical answer type questions (NATs).

Candidates preparing for IIT JAM must be aware of the comprehensive syllabus for their respective test. They should also solve IIT JAM practice question papers to get an idea of the types of questions asked in the exam.

In total 21 IITs are offering admission to candidates appearing for JAM 2026. These include IITs in Bhilai, Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, Dhanbad, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Madras, Palakkad, Patna, Roorkee, Ropar, Tirupati, and Varanasi. 

While the IITs are responsible for offering admission, institutes including IISc Bengaluru, NITs, DIAT, IIEST, IISER Pune, IISER Bhopal, and SLIET are responsible for sharing the results. 

IIT JAM result is released online at jam2026.iitb.ac.in. Each candidate will get an All India Rank (AIR), based on which, they will be offered admission. A merit list will be prepared for each of the seven test papers, depending on the number of seats available in each category.

Candidates can go to the official website for IIT JAM to check their results. It is advisable to keep your admit cards with you till the time results are declared, since the card contains all the details about your examination.

The counselling process for IIT JAM will start after announcement of result. The dates will be announced on the official website, once the candidates have downloaded their score cards. Candidates can apply for the IIT JAM counselling by following the given steps:

  • Fill in the preference for the institute in the IIT JAM admission form
  • After the declaration of the opening and closing merit lists, the qualified candidates will be invited for IIT JAM 2026 counselling.
