CSIR NET Eligibility for Nationality 

Nationality is counted as one of the eligibility criteria laid by the National Testing Agency. Candidates can take a look at the eligibility criteria laid for nationality

  • Candidates applying for the CSIR NET examination should be a citizen of India, then only he or she is eligible to apply for the application form. 
  • If the candidate is found otherwise, then he or she will not be eligible to apply for the application form. 

CSIR NET Eligibility for Educational Qualification 

The second most important factor for CSIR NET eligibility is the educational qualification. Candidates can take a look at the following requirements that a candidate need to meet to apply for the examination. 

  • Candidates who belong to General (UR)/ General-EWS and are appearing for the CSIR NET exam should have an M.Sc. or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/ BS-4 years/ BE/ B. Tech/ B. Pharma/MBBS and should score at least 55%. Further, the marks should not be round-off. On the other hand, candidates of the Third gender, /SC/ST/ OBC (NCL)and persons with Disability (PwD) are required to score at least 50% marks in the above-given courses.
  • Candidates who are enrolled in M.Sc,. or have pursued their 10+2+3 years of the given above courses as of the closing date of online application form submission are also eligible to apply for the examination. However, those candidates will be considered under the Result Awaited (RA) category, provided the candidates must pass the examination with the required percentage of marks within two years of the date of CSIR NET result declaration. If the candidate fails to do so, then his or her candidature will be disqualified. 
  • Candidates who belong to the General(UR)/General-EWS category and have B.Sc. (Hons.) or equivalent degree or have enrolled themselves in Integrated MS-PhD program with at least 55% (without rounding off) marks are eligible to apply for the exam. On the other hand, candidates who are from SC/ST/ OBC (NCL), Persons with a Disability, or Third Gender and have scored at least 50 % in the above-given course can also fill the application form. 
  • Candidates having a Bachelor's degree will be eligible for CSIR fellowships only if they register/enrol in a Ph.D./Integrated Ph.D. programme during the two-year validity term. Candidates with only a Bachelor's degree are only eligible for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), not the Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professor. (without rounding off)
  • Candidates who are pursuing B.E./ B.Tech./B.S./ B.Pharma/ MBBS final year/ or are waiting for their results will be allowed to enrol for the fellowship programme only. These students will not be allowed to enrol for the Lectureship/Assistant Professor post. 
  • Also, those students who are waiting for their results in the course of B.Sc. (Hons) or are even in their final year with the given course will not be eligible to apply for the examination. 
  • The eligibility of NET qualified candidates for Lectureship/Assistant Professor will be subject to meeting the UGC criteria. Ph.D. degree holders who have passed a Master's degree prior to September 19, 1991, with at least 50% marks are only eligible to apply for Lectureship/Assistant Professor. 
  • Candidates from the Third Gender category are eligible for the same fee, age, and Eligibility Criteria for NET (i.e. JRF and Assistant Professor) relaxations as candidates from the SC/ST categories. The qualifying cut-offs for this category would be the lowest among those in the relevant subject for SC/ ST/ PwD/ OBC-NCL / General-EWS.

CSIR NET Eligibility for Age Limit 

The CSIR NET eligibility criteria also consist of age limit factors. However, candidates must note that the age limit is different for  JRF and Lectureship (LS)/ Assistant Professor. Aspirants can take a look at the following CSIR NET minimum and maximum age limit. 

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Candidate's maximum age limit should be of 28 years as on 01/07/2022. 
  • Candidates who belong to the Third Gender, SC/ST/ Person with Disability (PwD)/ or the candidate is a female applicant, then they will get a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit section. 
  • On the other hand, candidates who belong to the OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), then they will get a relaxation of 3 years in the case of the upper age limit. 
  • Candidates who are applying for the Lectureship (LS)/ Assistant Professor are not liable under any upper age limit category.
