The Indian Institute of Technology Patna is a public research institute based in Patna, Bihar. The IIT Patna was established on August 6, 2008. As per NIRF Rankings 2025, IIT Patna is ranked #19 in engineering courses. IIT Patna offers a comprehensive curriculum through 40 courses taught in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. 

Among other courses, B.Tech. is the most popular course offered at IIT Patna. Currently 11 B.Tech. programs are available for entry-level admission through JoSSA. IIT Patna B.Tech admission mandates a Higher Secondary Certificate degree (10+2) with at least 75% marks. Then, seats will be allocated based on the JEE Advanced score, followed by a separate counselling process through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA). 

The tuition fee for admission to B.Tech. Courses are INR 1,00,000 per semester for Open/OBC/EWS candidates. Whereas SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from tuition fees. Candidates whose family income is below 1 Lakh shall also get full remission of the tuition fees. Candidates whose family income is between 1 Lakh and 5 Lakh shall get a 2/3rd remission of the tuition fees.

The average annual package was Rs 25 lakh. IIT Patna offers four-year undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, etc. Applicants will require a JEE Advanced score followed by JoSSA counselling. To take the JEE Advanced exam, you must rank among the top 2,50,000 scorers on the B.E./B.Tech. paper of the JEE Main exam, regardless of your category. The top 2,50,000 candidates from each category will be chosen based on their performance on the B.E./B.Tech. paper. Seats will be assigned to candidates from various categories based on the following percentages: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 40.5% OPEN. Within each category, 5% of seats are reserved for PWD candidates.

IIT Patna Integrated B.Tech. and MBA Admission 2026

IIT Patna offers an integrated B.Tech. and MBA Dual Degree by partnering with institutes like IIT and NITIE. Students can join this course after completing 7 semesters or after 8 semesters. The course is offered in specialisations like Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Financial Reporting & Analysis, etc. 

IIT Patna M.Tech Admission 2026

IIT Patna offers a two-year master’s degree (both regular and full-time) in  Electrical Engineering, Chemical and Bio-Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, etc. Candidates need to qualify for the GATE exam for admission in any of these courses.
