IIT Patna Admission 2026: JoSAA Seat Allocation Rounds, Counselling, Eligibility, Selection Criteria & Exam Dates

IIT Patna BTech Admission 2026 has been started for the academic year 2024-25. The admissions are based on the JEE Advanced cutoff and the counselling process is carried out by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Candidates who wish to get admitted to the seats allocated to them must lock their seats before the last date.

The Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT Patna) provides a wide range of courses in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across a variety of fields, including engineering, management, basic sciences, humanities, and social sciences.

IIT Patna's most popular program is B.Tech, which offers 11 different programs for undergraduate students through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA). To be eligible for B.Tech. Admission, students must have a Higher Secondary Certificate degree with at least 75% marks and a good score on the JEE Advanced exam. After the exam, there is a separate counselling process to allocate seats to students based on their scores and preferences. In the academic year 2025-2026, IIT Patna admitted 2,539 students for undergraduate programs.

Students from the Open/OBC/EWS categories must pay INR 1,00,000 per semester for B.Tech. tuition. Tuition fees are waived for SC/ST/PH students. Additionally, students from families with incomes below INR 1 lakh are eligible for a full tuition waiver, while students from families with incomes between INR 1 lakh and INR 5 lakh are eligible for a 2/3 tuition waiver.

To be admitted to any of the 40 courses offered at IIT Patna, students must take a national-level entrance exam (JEE Advanced, GATE, IIT-JAM, UGC, or CSIR) and participate in a centralised counselling process (JoSSA, COAP, or CCMT).

IIT Patna B.Tech Admission 2026 Dates

IIT Patna offers four-year bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and other fields. Applicants must take the JEE Advanced exam and participate in JoSSA counselling to be admitted. The following are the dates for JoSAA Counselling 2026 for the BTech programme at IIT Patna.

To be eligible to take the JEE Advanced exam, you must rank among the top 250,000 scorers on the B.E./B.Tech. paper of the JEE Main exam, regardless of your category. The top 250,000 candidates from each category will be selected based on their performance on the B.E./B.Tech. paper. Seats will be allocated to candidates from different categories based on the following percentages:

• 10% for GEN-EWS (General Economically Weaker Section)
• 27% for OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes - Non Creamy Layer)
• 15% for SC (Scheduled Castes)
• 7.5% for ST (Scheduled Tribes)
• 40.5% OPEN

Within each category, 5% of seats are reserved for PWD (Persons with Disabilities) candidates.

IIT Patna Integrated B.Tech. and MBA Admission 2026

IIT Patna offers a five-year integrated B.Tech. and MBA Dual Degree program in collaboration with other IITs and NITIE. Students can join the program after completing either seven or eight semesters of their B.Tech. degree. The program offers specializations in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Financial Reporting & Analysis, and others.

IIT Patna M.Tech Admission 2026

IIT Patna offers two-year master's degrees in Electrical Engineering, Chemical and Bio-Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and other fields, both full-time and regular. To be admitted to any of these programs, applicants must pass the GATE exam.
