IIT Bhubaneswar: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placement, Ranking

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIT Bhubaneswar) was established in 2008 by Government of India. It is a public technical university situated at the foot of Barunei Hill, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The institute is recognized as the Institution of National Importance by the GoI. The institute’s campus is surrounded by famous lodestones including Barunei Temple, Pandava Cave, Khurda Fort, and Swarna Ganga. IIT Bhubaneswar has a suburban permanent campus sprawling over 936 acres. It was the first IIT to establish a dedicated maritime campus in 2011 for carrying out research programmes in fields such as fisheries development, biodiversity, disaster response, and increasing sea levels. The School of Earth, Ocean and Environment Sciences have this campus located close to Chilika Lake.

IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked #47 by NIRF Ranking 2023 in the Engineering category and #91 in the overall category. It has also been ranked #37 in the research category in NIRF Ranking 2022. The QS World University Ranking 2022 has placed IIT Bhubaneswar between the range of 701-750. 

Engineering courses are available at the UG, PG, and doctorate levels at IIT Bhubaneswar. It offers 4-year B.Tech programmes, 5-year B.Tech+M.Tech dual degree programmes, 2-year M.Tech courses & M.Sc courses, and PhD programmes. The admission to B.Tech, M.Tech & M.Sc programmes is done on the basis of scores obtained by students in JEE Advanced, GATE & IIT JAM, respectively. 

For its 4-year B.Tech degree and its 5-year Integrated programme, the institution charges INR 10,45,336 and INR 11,15,195, respectively. M.Tech and M.Sc programmes cost, respectively, INR 1,45,618 and INR 1,25,618. For the purpose of pursuing their PhDs, students must pay around INR 3,30,195 at IIT Bhubaneswar.

At IIT Bhubaneswar, almost 1300 students are enrolled in undergraduate programmes last year. The B.Tech. and Integrated B.Tech+M.Tech. curriculum can accommodate more than 400 students in total. The institute has over 400 PG level students, with 246 seats available for the M.Tech programme and 125 seats available for the M.Sc programme. Additionally, 495 students are enrolled in IIT Bhubaneswar's PhD programmes.

IIT Bhubaneswar has a dedicated placement cell to place its students into reputed companies. It successfully conducted the placement drive for 2021-2022 batch. A total of 293 B.Tech students in all received offers. Six students received the highest domestic CTC of 44.10 lakhs this year. For the B.Tech., the average CTC was 18.95 lakhs, while for an M.Tech., it was 10.34 lakhs. PSUs including Tatagarh Wagaon Ltd., Oil India Limited, BEL, IOCL, GAIL, and C-DAC visit the campus every year for placements drive.

IIT Bhubaneswar has a unique serene and pllution free campus at Argul, near Jatani, in Odisha's Khordha district. All educational, organizational, and residential activities are available here. IIT Bhubaneswar's permanent campus at Argul is around 30 kilometers from Bhubaneswar City, 35 kilometers from Bhubaneswar Biju Pattanaik International Airport, and 8 kilometers from Khurda Road Junction railway station.

IIT Bhubaneswar Admission

Admission to IIT Bhubaneswar is based on national level entrance tests like JEE Advanced, GATE, IIT JAM, and others. Candidates seeking admission to any programme offered by IIT Bhubaneswar must take the entrance test for that specific programme.

IIT Bhubaneswar B.Tech Admission

• Candidates seeking admission to the B.Tech program must have appeared for the JEE Main & JEE Advanced examination
• They should have obtained a valid score and participate in the JoSAA counseling round.
• Once the counselling round is over, the institute will shortlist the candidate based on their marks obtained by them.
• When a candidate is selected, they are required to submit the fees in order to confirm their admission

Note: The admission process for dual degree program (B.Tech+M.Tech) at IIT Bhubaneswar is same as the B.Tech program.

IIT Bhubaneswar M.Tech Admission

• Candidates have to appear for the GATE examination and obtain a valid score
• They also have to participate in the COAP counselling session
• The institute will shortlist the candidates based on their marks obtained by them in the GATE exam.
• Shortlisted candidates will be called for the Personal Interview round.
• Following the PI round, the final seat allocation will be done by the institute.
• Based on the seat allocation list, shortlisted candidates can then submit the fees and confirm their admission.

IIT Bhubaneswar M.Sc Admission

• Appear for the IIT JAM examination and obtain a valid score
• Participate in the JAM counselling session
• The institute will then release the seat allocation based on which students will be called for document verification and submission of fees.

IIT Bhubaneswar PhD Admission

• Candidates seeking admission to the PhD program at IIT Bhubaneswar are required to appear for the entrance examination conducted by the institute.
• Based on marks obtained by candidates, they will be called for the Personal Interview round.

Sports Facilities: IIT Bhubaneswar provides several opportunities for students to thrive in sports and games. It is concerned with the general development of numerous sporting activities. Hostel Facilities: Three halls of residence are available to students for a pleasant stay. The Subarnarekha Hall of Residence (for Girls) and Mahanadi Hall of Residence (for Boys) are single-seated dormitories with 210 and 800 beds, respectively. These two housing halls are located on the Institute's permanent campus in Argul. The Dr. A.N. Khosla Hall of Residence (for Boys) has 70 rooms with two seats and is located near the academic campus in Bhubaneswar. The hostels feature a gym, a common area, and other recreational amenities available 24*7.

Fitness Center: Each hostel has a well-equipped Gymnasium for students' fitness. A gym trainer is also accessible for instruction and to assess an individual's fitness.
