JEE Main Jan 23 Shift 1 Chemistry Analysis

According to Dr. Saurabh Kumar, Founder & CEO - Shiksha Nation, the Chemistry paper was between moderate to tough in the difficulty level. Also the paper was time consuming and lengthy with a mix of questions of NCERT foundation. The trickiest part of the paper was the numerical and conceptual questions. Most of the students found the questions in Chemistry paper indirect that required careful attention.

JEE Main Jan 23 Shift 1 Physics Analysis

As for the Physics paper it was much easier than the Chemistry and Mathematics paper. Most of the questions asked in the Physics paper were straightforward, students who were well preapared and thorough with their concepts for them the Physics paper was manageable. The most important topics covered in the Physics paper are Wave and Ray Optics, Semiconductors, Modern Physics, Electostatistics and Matter Waves. The students viewed the Physics paper as straightforward but it was still a bit time consuming.

JEE Main Jan 23 Shift 1 Mathematics Analysis

The Mathematics Paper was the toughest, lengthy and had calculative questions among all three sections. Most of the questions required multi step solutions and high spped for calculations. Based on student's reaction this was the most challenging and time-intensive section.

The morning shift paper was moderate in difficulty. Most students found the exam balanced overall, with Chemistry being the most scoring, Physics moderate, and Mathematics moderately time-consuming due to lengthy calculations and multi-step problems. Time management was a key factor for good attempts.

JEE Main Jan 22 Shift 1 Physics Analysis

Physics was generally easy to moderate, with a mix of straightforward formula-based questions and a few conceptual ones. Important topics included Ray Optics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Field, Moment of Inertia, and Modern Physics. Some questions required careful application of concepts rather than just recall.

JEE Main Jan 22 Shift 1 Chemistry Analysis

Chemistry emerged as the most scoring section, largely based on NCERT concepts. Questions were seen from p-Block Elements, Chemical Reactions, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry (solutions, thermodynamics), Coordination Chemistry, and Chemical Bonding. Most items were direct and familiar to well-prepared students.

JEE Main Jan 22 Shift 1 Mathematics Analysis

Mathematics was easy to moderate but lengthy, requiring strong calculation skills and time management. Key areas included Coordinate Geometry (including conic sections like hyperbola and parabola), 3D Geometry & Vectors, Matrices, Calculus, Algebra, and Probability. Many problems were direct but required careful steps to solve.

The overall difficulty level of the JEE Main 2026 shift 2 exam, conducted on January 21, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM was of moderate level. As per the experts, the questions asked in the physics section were much simpler from Chemistry and Mathematics. Shift 2 Mathematics Analysis

According to Ujjwal Singh, Founding CEO, Infinity Learn, the Mathematics paper was the most difficult and challenging amongst the Chemistry and Physics section. Most of the questions asked in the paper required lengthy calculations which was time consuming and it reduced the speed of students. The questions asked in the paper were mostly from the syllabus but it was the execution of those questions that required more time. Students with strong calculations skills were the ones  who were best suited for this section.

Shift 2 Chemistry Analysis

As for the Chemistry paper the overall difficulty level was of moderate level, questions asked in the paper were a mix of straightforward and thought provoking questions. In the organic section of the Chemistry paper there were few questions that required special attention as they stood out to be tricky and required a strong fundamental skills to solve those questions. The overall chemistry paper was doable and only required strong grasps on the concepts.

Shift 2 Physics Analysis

The Physics Paper was much simpler and easier as compared to the Chemistry and Mathematics paper but the questions asked in the paper was not direct and straightforward. Students who were well-prepared and thorough with their concepts must have found the Physics paper manageable and less time-consuming.

Experts report the JEE Main 2026 Shift 1 exam (as conducted on January 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM) was slightly more difficult than last year; however, the overall difficulty level was moderate. Shift 1 Mathematics Paper Analysis

According to Abhishek Jain, Faculty, PhysicsWallah (PW), the Mathematics paper was of moderate difficulty, with a good balance between easier and more challenging questions. The calculations were not lengthy, and the paper was well distributed, with questions covering all major chapters. "Students who had prepared thoroughly using previous years’ question papers would have found the exam comfortable and doable, as several questions followed familiar patterns. While a few questions were tricky and required careful thinking, they were neither excessively tough nor time-consuming," he added.

Students have reported questions from Trigonometry, Matrix Determinant/Matrices and Determinants, Sets, Quadratic Equation, Definite Integration, Differential Equation, 3D Geometry, Vector Algebra, Conics, and more in the mathematics section. As per the students' and experts' opinions, most of the questions were easy to solve.

Overall, the paper maintained a balanced level of difficulty. For the upcoming shifts, Jain advises candidates to revise the previous years’ Questions (PYQs) carefully, as similar questions have appeared again. "A strong command over fundamentals and consistent practice with past papers will be the key to performing well in the exam,” he remarked.

Shift 1 Chemistry Paper Analysis

Pankaj Sijariya, Chief Content Officer, PhysicsWallah (PW), said the Chemistry paper had fewer direct and more formula-based questions, compared to last year, that required critical thinking and conceptual clarity. The overall difficulty level of the exam was
moderate, but students were required to apply concepts rather than rely on rote learning.

Shift 1 Physics Paper Analysis

Rajwant Singh, Professor, PhysicsWallah (PW), remarked that “the Physics paper followed a pattern similar to previous years and was balanced in its overall approach. The first shift was moderate in difficulty, with a mix of calculation-based and conceptual questions, allowing students to manage the section comfortably. According to Singh, the paper was not lengthy, and the weightage across topics remained largely consistent, with key areas such as Modern Physics, Rotation, and Current Electricity continuing to carry importance.
