Established in 1856, the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur (IIEST Shibpur), formerly known as Bengal Engineering College, is one of the oldest engineering institutes in India. IIEST Shibpur is recognised as an Institute of National Importance under MHRD by the Government of India. As per NIRF Ranking 2023, IIEST Shibpur secured the 35th position in the engineering category. 

IIEST Shibpur is known for its flagship course,i.e., the B.Tech program. IIEST Shibpur B.Tech admission mandates a higher secondary degree (10+2) with 75% marks, accompanied by a valid score from a national-level entrance exam  (JEE Main). Candidates will then be allocated seats as per the centralised JoSAA Counselling. IIEST Shibpur in the year 2021-22, admitted 2677 students (2088 males and 589 females) in their undergraduate program. 

IIEST Shibpur's tuition fee for the B.Tech program is INR 62,500 per semester (for General/OBC/EWS category candidates whose family income > INR 5 Lakhs), and INR 20,833 per semester (for SC/ST category candidates whose family income is between INR 1 and 5 Lakhs).

IIEST Shibpur offers a four-year degree program in Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, etc. The minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the B.Tech program is HSC degree with 75% of marks along with a valid JEE Main score followed by a centralised JoSSA Counselling round. IIEST Shibpur offers a four-year postgraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mechanics, Architecture, Civil Engineering, etc. Admission to these courses will require a bachelor’s degree (6.5 CGPA or 60% (GEN/EWS/OBC), whereas 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 55% (SC/ST/PwD)) along with a valid GATE score. This will be followed by CCMT counselling. The online application process for GATE 2024 is over. A few details about the GATE 2024 exam are mentioned below:

Candidates are offered a two-year postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Applied Geology, Applied Mathematics, Physics, and Food Processing and Nutrition Science. The minimium eligibility criteria is having a bachelor’s degree (6.5 CGPA or 60% (GEN/EWS/OBC), whereas 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 55% (SC/ST/PwD). Merit for seat allotment at IIEST Shibpur will be based on “Common Percentile” as per the IIT JAM score. IIT JAM registration is over for the 2024 session.

IIEST Shibpur offers a doctoral degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineering, etc. Candidates should have a master’s degree along with any of the Individual Fellowship Category (CSIR/DST/INSPIRE/UGC). Candidates who have qualified for any of the mentioned exams are exempted from appearing in the institute’s written test, but they need to appear in the interview round.
