SAT Registration 2024: Steps to Register, Registration Fee, Registration Dates

SAT Registration 2024: The SAT exam, which is conducted by the College Board for high school students aspiring to study in the U.S. or Canada, takes place seven times in a year. Currently, the SAT application process is going on for candidates who wish to give the exam in December 2024 session. The SAT registration closing date for the upcoming exam is November 22. For making changes in the application form, canceling registration, and late application, the last date is November 26. The exam will be conducted on December 7, 2024 for all students. 

Students can register for the SAT exam 2024 by visiting the official website of the College Board and creating an account. SAT registration can be completed by filling out the online SAT registration form after signing in to one's account. 

Aspirants can explore multiple test center locations through the search tool on the College Board website, decide upon their preferred exam date, and then go on to fill out the online SAT registration form. Students need to complete the registration process in order to receive the SAT admission ticket and appear for the exam. The SAT exam is taken by students who are planning to pursue higher education abroad for admission to colleges and universities based in the U.S. and Canada. The SAT registration process can be completed in approximately 30 minutes.

SAT registration form can be filled by signing in to the College Board account and entering the required details. Students need to keep a photograph that matches the requirements ready while filling the registration form and need to pay the application fee. 

The SAT registration fee is $68 and there is an additional regional fee of $43 for candidates taking the SAT exam outside of the United States. Students in the U.S. from low-income backgrounds are eligible for fee waiver and can appear for the SAT exam for free of cost. Low-income students of 11th and 12th grade need to fulfill specific eligibility requirements to avail the fee waiver.

Steps for SAT Registration 2024

Students are required to firstly decide their preferred test centre and SAT exam date before registering for the exam. Subsequently, candidates are required to create a College Board account and complete the online registration after signing in to the account. SAT registration can be completed in the following 4 steps : 

1) Select Test centre

The registration process will clarify the seat availability at various test centres. Not all test centres have available seats, so candidates are advised to choose their test centre accordingly. Candidates can use the SAT Test Centre Search Tool on the website of College Board to explore multiple test centres. Students have to select testing country or region, test date and location in order to search the available test centres. On clicking ‘ find a test centre’, the search tool will display a list of test centres at the chosen location which are conducting the SAT exam on the selected date. 

2) Create College Board Account

Students need to create a college board account in order to register for the SAT exam. Students need to fill in the required information in the form to create their account.

3) Online Registration

Enter the identifying information, select an exam date and test centre location in the registration form, and upload a photograph that meets the requirements set by the College Board. 

SAT Photo Requirements

There are several requirements for uploading the candidate’s photograph. 

• The file format must be either .jpg, .gif , or .png. 
• The candidate can be recognized easily in the photograph.
• The candidate is the sole one in the picture.
• The photograph has a head-and-shoulders view of the students with the entire face, both eyes and hair clearly visible. (Head coverings worn for religious purposes are acceptable.)
• The photograph has the student in focus.
• The photograph should not have any dark spots or shadows.

4) Pay SAT Registration Fee

The registration fee for SAT is $68 and there is an additional regional fee of $43 for candidates who are taking the test outside of the United States.

SAT Fee Waivers

Certain students are eligible for an application fee waiver and can appear for the SAT exam for free of cost. SAT fee waivers are applicable for low-income students of 11th and 12th grade in the United States or United States territories. Students can avail the benefits of fee waiver if they fulfill one of the following eligibility criteria : 

• The student is enrolled in or eligible to participate in the federal National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
• The annual income of the student’s family falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service.
• The candidate is enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families, for example, TRIO programs like Upward Bound.
• The family of the student receives public assistance.
• The student is homeless or lives in federally subsidized public housing or a foster home.
• The candidate is a ward of the state or an orphan.

SAT Registration 2024: How to Change SAT Test Date?

• Students can change their SAT exam date through their College Board account.
• In order to change the SAT test date, candidates are required to cancel their previous registration and make a new registration.
• Students need to register for a new SAT test date before the deadline for making registration changes. 

SAT Registration 2024: How to Change Registration Details?

• Change SAT Test Centre: Candidates can change their test centre through their College Board account before the deadline for making SAT registration changes.
• Change Name, Date of Birth, or Gender: Candidates are required to contact SAT Customer Support by 6 p.m. ET on the Monday that comes before the SAT exam date.
• Change Photo: Candidates can change their uploaded photograph through their College Board account until 5 days prior to the exam date. 
• Change Address, Score Report, High School Details: Students can change their address, high school details and score reports up to nine days after the SAT exam date. 

How to Cancel SAT Registration?

Students can cancel their SAT exam registration through the steps given below: 

• Step 1: Candidates are required to log in to their MySAT account. 
• Step 2 : Go to the particular SAT registration which needs to be cancelled.
• Step 3 : Candidates have to select ‘cancel registration’ from the I would like to menu.
• Step 4 : Students can cancel their SAT registration or register for a new test date first.

While students will get a full refund of their registration fee, they have to pay a cancellation fee if they wish to cancel their SAT exam registration. The details of the SAT cancellation fee are given in the table below.
