FMGE Eligibility 2023: National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) prescribes the FMGE eligibility criteria for Indian Nationals and Overseas Citizens of India. The FMGE eligibility criteria are a set of parameters that candidates must fulfill to appear for the FMGE examination. The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is conducted for medical graduates who hold their primary medical qualification from abroad to be eligible to practise medicine in India.
Candidates need to be citizens of India or overseas citizens of India to appear for the FMGE exam. To be eligible for the FMGE exam 2023, the result of the primary medical qualification should have been declared on or before April 30, 2023. Candidates must submit all necessary documentation proof for establishing that they have cleared the primary medical qualification examination on or before April 30, 2023.
Candidates applying for the FMGE exam should have studied MBBS degree abroad after obtaining the required eligibility certificate or qualifying the NEET(UG) examination. In order for the MBBS to be recognized for the FMGE exam, candidates need to have secured an ‘eligibility certificate’ from the National Medical Commission, formerly known as the Medical Council of India.
FMGE Eligibility Criteria 2023
The FMGE eligibility criteria mention specifications such as nationality, qualification, and required documentation that candidates need to be mindful of while applying for the FMGE examination. Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria in order to appear for the exam. FMGE exam 2023 was conducted on July 30, 2023. The exam is conducted biannually for Indian citizens seeking provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council.
FMGE 2023: Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
The candidate must be an Indian citizen or an Overseas citizen of India.
Qualification
Candidates need to hold a primary medical degree that is approved by the concerned Indian Embassy. The medical degree should be a recognized qualification for enrollment as a medical practitioner in the country of the foreign medical school.
Result Date of Qualification:
The result of the final examination of the primary medical degree should have been announced on or before April 30, 2023.
Documentary Proof for Result
The candidate must submit documentary proof which confirms that the result of the final examination of the primary medical degree has been declared on or before April 30, 2023. The documentary evidence must establish that the candidate has cleared the examination of all the mandatory courses required to obtain the qualification.
Eligibility Certificate
Candidates who wish to take admission to an undergraduate medical program in a foreign medical school will need the eligibility certificate from the National Medical Commission (or the former Medical Council of India).
NEET UG Exam
Candidates (Indian Citizens/Overseas Citizens of India) planning to study for a medical degree in a foreign medical institution need to qualify the NEET UG exam (National-Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Admission to MBBS). The NEET result will function as the eligibility certificate in this case. The result of the NEET exam will be valid for 3 years from the date of the result declaration.
Mandatory Documents
Candidates will be eligible to appear for the FMGE exam provided they can submit the primary medical qualification degree certificate (or provisional certificate) attested by the concerned Indian Embassy. Additionally, they need to submit the eligibility certificate, if applicable.
Eligibility Exemptions
Candidates are exempted from the FMGE eligibility criteria if they hold undergraduate and postgraduate medical degrees from the following countries :
- Australia
- Canada
- New Zealand
- United Kingdom
- United States of America
Number of Attempts
There is no limit to the number of times a candidate can appear for the FMGE exam. However, candidates who have qualified FMGE cannot take the exam again.
