The four stages of the exam selection process are CBT 1, CBT 2, CBAT/Typing Test, and Document Verification, according to the RRB notification (Released in 2019). All posts must pass the Stage 1 exam, although the Stage 2 exam differs depending on the post. The pattern is the same, though. In other words, all exams in stage 2 have the same total number of questions, total marks, and duration.
The stage 1 exam functions as a screening test, and applicants who pass it are qualified to move on to the next round of the recruiting process. The board shortlists 20 times as many candidates as there are vacancies for a given position.
