Jadavpur University is a state university founded on December 24, 1955 under the Jadavpur University Act (West Bengal Act XXXIII of 1955). 

NIRF India Ranking 2023: 4th in University 10th in Engineering, 19th in Research and 18th in Pharmacy overall category is 13th and NAAC A. Approved/ recognised by NCTE, COA, AICTE, UGC.

Jadavpur University admission to BTech program is done through state entrance exams such as WBJEE, M.Tech exam will be based on GATE. However, for several courses, the University also accepts national level tests such as NATA, MAT, XAT etc.

Jadavpur University has 36 departments that collectively offer more than 130 courses UG and PG and Doctoral levels. All these courses are UGC approved and are offered across four fields, including Arts, Science, Engineering & Technology and Interdisciplinary Studies. The university also offers distance education courses recognised by Indira Gandhi National Open University.

Jadavpur University: Infrastructure Facilities

• HOSTELS - Hostel Mess is conducted by the students' Mess committee under the guidance of the superintendent of the respective hostel. The Main Hostel complex is situated outside the campus. At the Main Hostel complex and the Ladies Hostel complex and besides old P.G Hostel there are private canteens supervised by the students committee. 

Process of enrollment in Hostels you need to be accommodated in hostels, you are to collect a prescribed application form the information office.

AT the time of admission in the hostel are to pay but 3000/- in all inclusive of Mess Advance. 

• CENTRAL LIBRARY- The University Central Library is housed in a three- storied building in a campus. Its shelf space and working space total 36,000 sq.ft., Seven reading rooms, carrels, and an alcove for bound volume of journals provide sitting accommodation for 700 readers.
• DIGITAL LIBRARY- Under the potential for excellence programme of the UGC, the centre for digital library was established in November 2003 on the first floor of the new annex building of the central library.The Digital Library has a learning Resources centre (LRC) and a reading room.
