The Staff Selection Commission has introduced significant reforms for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam 2025, aiming to boost transparency, fairness, and convenience for lakhs of aspirants nationwide. These changes were confirmed by SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan and come as part of ongoing efforts to address logistical challenges and technical glitches experienced in previous years.

Exam to be conducted in a single shift

One of the landmark reforms is the shift to a single-shift examination model conducted nationally. Unlike earlier years when the exam was held in multiple sessions requiring normalization to equalize scores, the single-shift format will provide all candidates an equal platform under uniform conditions. This move eliminates concerns over varying difficulty levels across shifts and enhances trust in the evaluation process.

Exam centres within 100 km

The Commission has also committed to allotting exam centres within 100 kilometers of candidates’ registered addresses or preferred cities. This will considerably reduce the travel burden and expenses, especially benefiting those from remote or rural regions. Previously, many candidates traveled long distances, sometimes even out of state, causing stress and higher costs.

Vendor management system

To further improve the examination's reliability, SSC has revamped its vendor management system by engaging four specialised agencies responsible for center management, security and biometric verification, application handling, and question paper preparation. This multi-agency approach replaces the earlier dependence on a single vendor, aiming to prevent system crashes, hardware failures, and Aadhaar verification delays.

Aadhaar verification of candidates

The reforms also include the mandatory use of Aadhaar for candidate verification, securing the exam from impersonation, and ensuring smooth entry procedures.

The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam for 2025 is scheduled to be held from September 12 to 26, marking the start of these new reforms in action. Overall, the 2025 SSC CGL exam reforms are expected to make the process more transparent, equitable, and candidate-friendly, easing previous pain points and fostering a level playing field for all aspirants.
