National Institute of Technology, Nagaland: Situated in Chumukedima, Dimapur, NIT Nagaland is an institute of national importance and one of the ten newly formed NITs by the Government of India in the year 2009. The institute started functioning in the year 2010 and is an autonomous technical institution funded by MHRD, Government of India.

The institute offers diverse courses at UG, PG and doctoral levels. Admissions are subject to the marks obtained in the national-level examination which is further followed by a common seat allocation method to grant final admission. Entrance exams like JEE, GATE and IIT JAM are accepted by the institute for granting admission across various courses. B.Tech is the flagship course of the institute with a duration of 4 years, however, courses like M.Tech, M.Sc, and PhD programmes are also offered by the institute in an array of specialisations.

NIT Nagaland offers B.Tech in six specialisation; Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering respectively. On the postgraduate level, the institute offers specialisation in VLSI Systems, Computer Science and Engineering & Communication Engineering, Power System Engineering, and others for M.Tech and M.Sc degrees. Courses offered for doctoral degrees include branches like Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, etc.

Admissions to B.Tech courses in NIT Nagaland are based on JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling and CCMT/CCMN (Centralised Counselling for M.Tech) for PG level  M.Tech courses. Admission across PhD programmes is based on an entrance exam conducted by the institute and a personal interview round related to the relevant area of research study,

In the placement drive for the year 2024, multiple well-reputed companies like Deloitte,  Capgemini, Infosys, Cognizant, and others were part of the placement drive. The highest package offered stood at INR 13.95 LPA for the B.Tech Program while for the M.Tech program the highest package was 12 LPA

In the NIRF Engineering rankings 2024 NIT Nagaland secured 151-200 rank and was granted rank 76 by IIRF in the year 2022 for being one of the top B.Tech colleges in India. The institute is also recognized by UGC (University Grants Commission ) and AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).

Multiple scholarship and fee waiver programmes are provided to students whose family annual income is less than 1 lakhs. For SC and ST candidates 100% fee waiver programmes are available, apart from that various remission of some portion of tuition fees are available for meritorious students.

BY AIR: The nearest airport to NIT Nagaland is Dimapur Airport which is almost 13 km away from the college, regular flights are available from Delhi and Kolkata to reach Dimapur Airport.

BY TRAIN: The railway station located nearest to the National Institute of Technology, Nagaland is Dimapur which connects through a main line station of the Nort-East Frontier Railway to different parts of India. It takes approximately 40 minutes to reach the institute from the railway station since the distance between the two is 17km.

BY ROAD: Buses across multiple North East viz, like Kohima, Shillong and others are available to reach Dimapur. Even private taxis can be used for travelling to mentioned nearby cities at affordable rates.

NIT Nagaland Admission 2025: Courses and Fees

Admission to undergraduate programs (B.Tech) is through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). For postgraduate programs (M.Tech), admission is generally through the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) examination.

Central Library: A central library with a vast collection of books, journals with more than 7200 academic books are made accessible to students to conduct research in diverse disciplines like engineering, technology, management,etc. Digital sources of information is also available to ease the process of academic and research based learning.

Academic Facilities: Dedicated academic buildings with fully equipped classrooms for different departments are made available for the students. Modern teaching equipments like projector, interactive audio-visual board, etc are also there to provide a conductive environment for learning.
