IIT Mandi: Admission, Placements, Cutoffs and Courses

The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi), is a public engineering institute in Himachal Pradesh, India. The institute was established in 2009. IIT Mandi is accrediated from UGC and AICTE. IIT Mandi offers more than 25 undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels programmes in engineering, management, sciences, humanities and social sciences. IIT Mandi secured the #33 position in the engineering category as per NIRF Rankings 2023.

B.Tech. is the flagship course offered at IIT Mandi. IIT Mandi B.Tech admission mandates a Higher Secondary Certificate degree (10+2) with at least 75% marks. Seats will then be allocated based on the JEE Advanced score followed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA) counselling process. In the academic year 2021-2022, a total of 1018 students (808 males and 210 females) were admitted under the UG program by IIT Mandi. IIT Mandi B.Tech tuition fee is INR 1,06,750 per semester for UR/OBC/EWS candidates. Whereas, SC/ST/PH candidates need to pay INR 6750 per semester. 

In comparison to other courses, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is the most competitive course here. IIT Mandi CSE 2023 opening and closing rank   was1426 and 2909 for the gender-neutral open category in round 6 as per JoSSA. 

IIT Mandi conducted its phase-1 campus placement of December 2022-23, where 249 students were placed out of which 75 were pre-placement offers (PPO) with an average package of INR 25.23 LPA. This was witnessed by the participation of more than 200 national and international companies. IIT Mandi Admission 2024

IIT Mandi admission in any of the 25 courses, applicants will require a national-level entrance (JEE Main/JEE Advanced/GATE/IIT JAM/CSIR/UGC-NET) score followed by a counselling process (JoSSA/CCMT/CCMN). 

In order to be eligible for the JEE Advanced exam, you need to secure a position within the top 2,50,000 scorers in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of the JEE Main exam, irrespective of your category. The selection of the top 2,50,000 candidates from each category will be determined by their performance in the JEE Advanced exam.

Allocation of seats for candidates from different categories will be as follows: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 40.5% for the OPEN category. Additionally, within each category, 5% of seats are reserved for PWD candidates.

IIT Mandi B.Tech Admission 2024

IIT Mandi offers a four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, etc. For admission to these courses, applicants will require a valid JEE Advanced score, followed by JoSSA counselling after which seats will be allocated. IIT Mandi Integrated B.Tech. and M.Tech. Admission 2024

IIT Mandi offers an integrated B.Tech. and M.Tech. Dual Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Agro-Technology, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Computational Bioengineering. The B.Tech and M.Tech dual degree programme on Bioengineering aims to teach students how to use engineering principles to develop new technologies that use physical, chemical, mathematical, and biological sciences to diagnose, treat, and assist biological systems.

There is also a provision of scholarship in the fifth year for such students,  where they are eligible for a Half-time Teaching/Research Assistantship (HTRA) in the fifth year as per the existing IIT Mandi norms. 

IIT Mandi M.Tech Admission 2024

IIT Mandi offers a two-year master’s degree in  the disciplines of Electric Transportation, Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI), Computer Science and Engineering, Communication and Signal Processing (CSP), and Power Electronics and Drives. Candidates will require a valid GATE score, except for candidates who are graduating/ graduated from IITs with a B.Tech. degree and has a CGPA of 8.0 and is exempted from the GATE score. Registration for the GATE 2024 exam has started from August 30, 2023. 

IIT Mandi M.Sc Admission 2024

IIT Mandi offers a two-year master's program in Physics, Chemistry, and Applied Mathematics. Candidates seeking admission in any of these courses will require a valid IIT JAM score. Registration for the upcoming IIT JAM 2024 exam has already started.

IIT Mandi MBA Admission 2024

IIT Mandi Integrated M.Tech. + Ph.D. Admission 2024

Candidates require a bachelor’s degree from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) with a CGPA more than or equal to 8. Also, the National level examination is waived for candidates with HRTA fellowships. 

IIT Mandi Ph.D. Admission 2024

IIT Mandi offers a doctoral degree (full-time and part-time modes) in Biosciences and Bioengineering, Chemical sciences, management, mathematics, etc. A GATE score is mandatory for admission to doctoral courses. Candidates receiving fellowships from government-funded agencies like UGC/CSIR NET/NBHM are eligible for admission to these courses. 

IIT Mandi Cutoffs 2024

The JEE Advanced cutoffs for 2024 have not been released. Candidates who fulfill the criteria and have a valid JEE main score will soon be called for the counselling round for BTech admissions.

NTA will release the JEE Advanced cutoff for 2024 soon after the declaration of results. Meanwhile, interested candidates can check the JEE Advanced cutoff for the academic year 2023. IIT Mandi CSE opening and closing rank according to JoSSA is 1426 and 2909 for the open gender-neutral category.
