Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, also known as GNDU Amritsar, is a public state university established in 1969 in the spiritual city of Amritsar, Punjab. The residential-cum-affiliating university is accredited with Grade A++ by NAAC with a score of 3.51 on a four point scale. The institution is recognized by UGC and MHRD with the status of "University with Potential for Excellence" and "Category - 1 Autonomy,” respectively. The university is ranked #48 in the university category and #87 in the overall category by NIRF Ranking 2023. The university is ranked among the top 9% of universities worldwide in the World Universities Ranking (CWUR).

As a public university, GNDU Amritsar fees are highly subsidized majorly for all courses except some engineering programs. The B.Tech/M.Tec/B.Arch fees at the university revolve around INR 95K-INR1.1 lakh per year. The university offers scholarships to deserving, economically disadvantaged, handicapped, and blind students. Additionally, the DPI, Punjab provides post-merit scholarships, national scholarships, state merit scholarships, and state scholarships for non-Hindi speakers to university students.

GNDU Amritsar Location

The university is situated in the area of Grand Trunk Road, Off, NH1 in Amritsar, Punjab. Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport is the nearest airport to the university, with a distance of about 10 kms. Similarly, with a distance of about 12 km, Amritsar Junction Railway Station is the nearest railway station to the campus. Students seeking bus services should note that Hall Gate Bus Stop is the nearest stop to the university. It takes merely 20 minutes to reach the Golden Temple from the institution. 

GNDU Amritsar Courses

The university offers almost all major and minor programs at UG, PG & doctoral levels. It also offers diploma and PG diploma programs in a number of specializations. The university offers B.Tech, M.Tech, and MBA degrees as its flagship courses. GNDU Amritsar B.Tech admission is done on the basis of JEE Main scores except for the Computer Engineering specialization for which the university conducts its own entrance examination. 

For admission to the M.Tech & MBA program, the admission is carried out on the basis of GATE & CAT scores, respectively. The university's B.Tech program has a seat intake of 670, while the M.Tech and MBA programs have intakes of 70 and 350 seats, respectively. Admission to other UG/PG/Diploma programs is done either on the basis of the university’s own entrance exam or merit list based on the last qualifying examination. With its 14 faculties and 45 departments, the university imparts education to more than 10,000 students with 540 permanent faculties. The university's 500 acre campus includes various facilities that are provided to the students along with the faculty members. 

Hostel- The university provides residential accommodation to all the students, it has separate hostel blocks for boys and girls. There are 3 hostels for boys and 4 separate hostels for girls. All the basic necessities like water and food, along with furniture and cleanliness is included for the comfortable stay of the students. 

Sports- The university has massive sports facilities, and a huge playground that is spread over an area of 30 acres. The institute is known for its sports and active players, as it has won the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy under the sports category several times. The Physical Education department on the campus makes sure that every student participates in various sports events that are conducted from time to time. 

Library- The central library, also known as the Bhai Gurdas Library, caters to the academic and research needs of the students. It has a reading hall that runs 24/hours a day so that students can access it whenever they want to. It comprises journals, study sources, novels, magazines and various other books and materials for the students to access. 

Cafeteria- The cafeteria feeds all the students and faculty members 3 times a day with delicious and nutritious food. The price of the meals that are offered is quite reasonable and students can easily afford it.
