IIT JAM 2027: Notification, Application Form, Exam Date, Exam Pattern, Syllabus

IIT JAM 2027: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur will release the IIT Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027 notification 2027 on August 22, 2026. The registration process for the IIT JAM 2027 examination will begin on September 5, 2026, and the last date to fill out the application form is October 12, 2026. As mentioned on the official website, the IIT JAM 2027 exam will be conducted on February 14, 2027, for admission to master's degree and integrated PhD programmes in MSc and MS. The IIT JAM Admit Card 2027 will be released a few weeks before the examination date on the official website, jam.iitkgp.ac.in. 

As for the IIT JAM 2027 exam pattern, the examination will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) where the questions will appear in a random sequence on the screen. There will be 60 questions carrying a total of 100 marks. The entire question paper will be divided into three sections, mainly A, B, and C. All sections are compulsory. There is no age limit to appear for the IIT JAM 2027 exam.

Those who successfully clear the exam will then go ahead with the IIT JAM counselling. The admission process will begin once the counselling sessions are concluded. The JAM exam is open to all applicants, irrespective of their nationality. The exam offers around 3000 seats to candidates, based on their All India Ranks.

IIT JAM 2027: Application Fees

The application fees for IIT JAM 2027 vary as per the number of test papers and the category of candidates:

IIT JAM 2027: Eligibility

IIT JAM eligibility criteria must be fulfilled by candidates who wish to secure admission to a master’s programme in IITs. Interested students can check the eligibility requirements for IIT JAM below:

• Candidates must have completed their undergraduate degree or must be appearing for their final examination in 2027
• They must have completed all the parts of their undergraduate degree before applying
• They also must share proof of completion of their undergraduate degree while applying for the test

Admission is offered on the basis of All India Rank (AIR) assigned to candidates as per the merit list. The final merit list is released after the conclusion of the IIT JAM Counselling process. 

IIT JAM 2027: Admit Card

The IIT JAM Admit Card 2027 will be released a few weeks before the exam date. Students appearing for the exam must keep checking the official website jam.iitkgp.ac.in for official notifications. The admit card will contain the following credentials:

• Candidate’s name
• Photograph
• Registration number
• Signature
• Subjects/test papers along with their codes

Candidates have to carry a hard copy of the admit card along with them to the examination centre on the day of the examination.

IIT JAM 2027: Exam Pattern

IIT JAM 2027 will be a computer-based test (CBT), conducted in 100 cities all over the country. The test covers seven subjects of science, divided into seven test papers, including:

1. Biotechnology
2. Chemistry
3. Economics
4. Geology
5. Mathematics
6. Mathematical Statistics
7. Physics

Candidates can appear in a maximum of two tests out of the seven. The IIT JAM exam pattern includes objective-type questions. These questions are further divided into three types: multiple choice questions (MCQs), multiple select questions (MSQs), and numerical answer type questions (NATs).

Questions in each section will be of the following types: Section A is a Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) where only one option is correct out of the four given choices, and Section A also has negative marking. Section B is a Multiple Select Question (MSQ). In this section, there may be one or more than one correct choice and no negative or partial marking. Section C is Numerical Answer Type (NAT). In this, the answer is a real number that needs to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keyboard available on the computer screen. No choices are shown for this type of question, and there is no negative marking.

Candidates preparing for the IIT JAM must be aware of the comprehensive syllabus for their respective test. They should also solve IIT JAM practice question papers to get an idea of the types of questions asked in the exam.

IIT JAM 2027: Participating Institutions

In total, 23 IITs are offering admission to candidates appearing for JAM 2027. These include IITs in Bhilai, Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, Dhanbad, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Madras, Palakkad, Patna, Roorkee, Ropar, Tirupati, Varanasi, Dharwad and Goa.

While the IITs are responsible for offering admission, institutes including IISc Bengaluru, NITs, DIAT, IIEST, IISER Pune, IISER Bhopal, and SLIET are responsible for sharing the results. 

IIT JAM 2027 Results

The IIT JAM result will be tentatively released online at jam.iitkgp.ac.in on March 18, 2027. Each candidate will get an All India Rank (AIR), based on which they will be offered admission. A merit list will be prepared for each of the seven test papers, depending on the number of seats available in each category.

Candidates can visit the official IIT JAM website to check their results once released. It is advisable to keep your admit card with you till the time results are declared, since the card contains all the details about your examination.

IIT JAM 2027 Counselling

The counselling process for IIT JAM will start after the announcement of the result. The dates will be announced on the official website once the candidates have downloaded their scorecards. Candidates can apply for the IIT JAM counselling by following the given steps:

• Fill in the preference for the institute in the IIT JAM admission form
• After the declaration of the opening and closing merit lists, the qualified candidates will be invited for IIT JAM 2027 counselling. 
• Once done, candidates must then upload the required documents for the verification process
• Candidates will then be able to freeze, upgrade, or reject the admission offer
