The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, established the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) institute in 1989 to mark the centennial of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's birth. At the national and international levels, JNCASR has won various awards and distinctions. The Center has also received NAAC accreditation with a rating of A++ (3.76 out of 4 points), reflecting its ranking as one of India's top institutes of higher learning and research.
JNCASR Bangalore was fourth among universities and eleventh overall in the NIRF Ranking 2017. In terms of academic institutions in India, JNCASR was rated fourth in the Life Sciences category by Nature Index in 2020, and tenth in the Chemistry and Physical Sciences category. Globally, JNCASR was placed 469th in the academic sector, making it the top Indian institution. The institute was placed third overall in India by Scimago Institutions Ranking 2020, and first in the higher education sector. It also won the Clarivate Analytics India Innovation Award in both 2017 and 2018.
Any research institution's primary duty is to apply its discoveries for the benefit of humanity in addition to furthering the understanding of nature. JNCASR has earned over 300 patents since its founding and encouraged the creation of a few firms using homegrown innovations. The Center has received the Indian Patent Office (IPO) Motivation Award for 2015 at the National Intellectual Property Awards in honor of these accomplishments and for its noteworthy contributions to the fields of patent-oriented R&D and IP promotion.
Currently, 338 students are now enrolled in the Center's different academic programmes. The Center also has students enrolled in Integrated Ph. D., M. S., and M. S. (Engg.) programmes, while the bulk of these students are pursuing Ph. D. The students of JNCASR come from all around the nation, and they also have international students who come to the Center as part of various exchange programmes.

The institute is located on Rachenahalli Lake Rd, Jakkur, Bengaluru, Karnataka. The institute is 23.8 Km away from the Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru. Students can reach the institute from the airport through a cab in around 32 minutes. If you're using a city bus, the nearest stop is Byatarayanapura or Esteem Mall. From there, an auto rickshaw may be booked to carry you to the institute. Pupils can reach Bangalore city railway station and book an autorickshaw to reach the center.

JNCASR Admission
Candidates seeking admission to any of JNCASR's programmes must meet the eligibility criteria as well as receive a valid score in national entrance tests as needed by the institution depending on the course.
JNCASR PhD Admission
- Candidates looking for admission to the PhD course must have appeared for any national level entrance examinations such as GATE/CSIR UGC (JRF)/INSPIRE/JEST.
- Based on the scores obtained by candidates, the institute will shortlist the candidates and invite them for the interview round.
- The final merit list will be released after the interview round based on which students will be given final admission to their applied program.
JNCASR Integrated PhD Admission
- Candidates must take an entrance test conducted by the institute for admission to the Integrated PhD program.
- Candidates having a valid score of JAM examination are exempted from taking the institute’s entrance test.
- The institute will shortlist the candidate for the interview round based on the scores they obtained in the JAM examination or written test.
- Following the interview round, the final merit list will be released.
- Submit the fees and confirm the admission.
JNCASR MS (Research) Admission
- Candidates seeking admission to the PhD programme must have taken any national level entrance exams such as GATE/CSIR UGC (JRF)/INSPIRE/JEST.
- The institute will shortlist candidates and invite them to the interview round based on their test scores.
- Following the interview phase, the final merit list will be announced, depending on which students will be granted final admission to their chosen programme.
JNCASR PG Diploma Admission
JNCASR also provides one-year PG Diploma in Science Education (PGDSE) and Materials Science (PGDMS) programmes. The selection process is based on marks in the entrance exams. Final admission is contingent on interview performance and previous academic performance.
- Candidates are required to appear for the entrance examination conducted by the institute.
- Shortlisted candidates will be called for the interview round.
- Final admission is based on the final merit list prepared after the written examination and interview process.

JNCASR Scholarships
The institution, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, welcomes applications for Summer Research Fellowships from extremely outstanding and dedicated engineering and science aspirants.
- Integrated Ph.D. and B.Sc. graduates will receive INR 4000 per year.
- M.E/M.Tech/M.B.B.S/ or B.E/B.Tech grads with two years of work experience will be paid INR 9500 in the first two years and INR 10,000 in following years.
- Graduates of B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc will be paid INR 8000 in the first two years and INR 9000 in subsequent years.
JNCASR Facilities & Infrastructure
The institution includes numerous facilities to underpin students' overall personality development. The facilities include the infrastructure that ensures students spend a comfortable life on the campus. JNCASE facilities include the following things:
- Hostel Facilities: The Student's Residence (SR) is housed on campus and provides nice accommodations for JNCASR students. There are double and single occupancy rooms available. All residents are served substantial meals at the hostel mess. Snacks and essential necessities can also be obtained at a shop on the campus.
- Library: The institute has a well equipped library on its campus with both printed and e-books. There are more than 20,000 books in the JNCASR library. The library also includes journals, online databases, and other free resources.
- Sports Facilities: Sports are vital for a student's physical growth and advancement. The pupils have access to a variety of indoor and outdoor games. Sports activities and tournaments take place throughout the year, keeping students at the dormitory busy. Every year, a sports committee is created whose purpose it is to administer all student-related sports events.
- Computer Lab: CompLab is in charge of establishing and maintaining computer and network facilities, as well as managing the preservation and flow of information on them. The center is linked to the internet by an Aircel 170 Mbps + 80 Mbps leased line and RF link, respectively.
- Gymnasium: The center has built a gymnasium with expensive equipment and accessories for both learners and residential academic staff. The gym housed within the student accommodation allows students to work out without having to leave the dormitory. A trained Gyms Instructor is stationed nearby to assist students in doing the exercise drill correctly.
- Women’s Lounge: The institute has a separate lounge for its female faculty members. It was designed to help them unwind and relax throughout their hectic research/academic schedules.
