Indian Institute of Information Technology Kota was established in the year 2013 as a joint venture of the Government of India (MoE) and the Government of Rajasthan along with several other industry partners under the Public-Private-Partnership mode. Currently, the institution is running within the premises of its mentor institute Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur (MNIT Jaipur). The permanent campus of the institution is being constructed over a land area of 100.37 acres and is located in Ranpur, near Kota.

The institution offers admission to UG, PG, and PhD level courses on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in national-level entrance examinations like JEE Main and GATE. On the undergraduate level B. Tech is offered in several specialisations like Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Engineering. M.Tech is offered in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science with first-semester tuition fees of INR 50,000. A  Doctorate of Philosophy is offered by the institution through its CSE and ECE branches based on the GATE score and candidates' performance in the personal interview round conducted by the institution.
