Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Varanasi: IIHT or the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology located in the spiritual city of Varanasi, dates back to British-era,in 1956, the Central Weaving Institute. was taken over by the All India Handloom Board on behalf of the Central Govt. and became a part of the Textile Commissioner’s Office, the Institute was renamed as Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, in 1976, and it has been functioning under the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles.

IIHT Varanasi offers B.Tech, a Three-year Diploma and a 1.5-year Diploma in Handloom and Textile technology. The programs are approved by the AICTE and affiliated with Dr.  APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. 

The average fee for a four-year Year B.Tech degree program is INR 19,500 in the first year and INR 17,000 Per annum from 2nd year onwards. The tuition fee for Diploma and Post Diploma is INR 6000 per annum. The IIHT students also get stipends during their course of education. The B.Tech students get INR 3000 per month and diploma and post-diploma students get a stipend of INR 1500 per month. Apart from regular students, children of Handloom weavers studying in IIHT get full reimbursement of fees and a stipend of INR 5000 per month. 

IIHT Varanasi admissions are done as per JoSS/ CSAB and UPTAC (institutes affiliated to AKTU) counseling upon JEE Main examination. The courses offered by the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Varanasi have reservation provisions for students from reserved categories and students from the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Varanasi undertakes students through CSAB and UPTAC counseling. The eligibility exam for admissions is JEE Main. Candidates are supposed to register themselves for whichever of the two above-mentioned counseling sessions after JEE Main results.
