Recruitment for Probationary Officers and Management Trainees is done every year through a Common Recruitment Process (CRP), also called the IBPS PO examination. This started in 2012, and this year will be the 14th time it will be conducted. Candidates are selected on the basis of three important rounds, and the candidate must qualify for each round to get to the next one. These important phases are:

Preliminary Examination

The first phase of the process is the Preliminary exam, which candidates are required to clear in order to reach the next round.

Mains Examination

Mains is the second phase, where candidates need to obtain an appropriate score so that they can step into another phase of the examination.

Interview

Participating organisations coordinated by the Nodal Bank in each State/ UT with the help of IBPS will conduct interviews for the shortlisted candidates, and as this will be the final round, candidates will be selected on the basis of how they perform in this round.

The exam is conducted in three phases, including Prelims, Mains and an Interview. Consequently, the first phase (Prelims) consists of three sections. Candidates who will qualify for the prelims will further be eligible to sit for the IBPS PO mains exam. The second phase is more elaborate and consists of descriptive and objective-type questions.

IBPS PO Prelims Pattern

Each correct question carries a +1 mark, whereas 0.25 marks will be deducted for the question answered incorrectly.

IBPS PO Mains Pattern

One-fourth of the marks is deducted for the wrongly selected answers.

IBPS PO Interview Pattern

Candidates who will clear the mains stage will then appear for the personal interview round. IBPS PO interview is often conducted by the nodal bank and participating organisations. The interview session goes on for 15-20 minutes and is of 100 marks. This phase does not have a limited syllabus, although the questions can revolve around the banking sector, things about yourself, current affairs, and general awareness.

The IBPS PO syllabus is a combination of a wide range of questions from different fields. The Prelims section is divided into three sections, consisting of  Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Language.

As PO is a desirable job role, the salary is what draws people to it. The initial pay for a public bank PO is 52,000 to 55,000, with timely incentives and benefits like allowances, special allowances, HRA, and other perks. This is expected to increase with time, according to the promotion of candidates.
