Sri Mata Vaishno Devi University: SMVDU, Katra, is one of its kind Technical institution in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was founded in 1999 as a fully residential technical university. SMVDU is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and fully funded by the same. 

SMVDU has been ranked 31th among architecture institutions, and 150-200 among engineering institutions in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University is located on 470 acres of land in the lap of Trikuta Hills, located 14 km short of the holy town of Katra, and 40 km from Jammu. SMVDU has a pyramidal architecture that seamlessly integrates with the valley-like ambiance of the surrounding tranquil hills. The lush green hills and the perennial Jhajjar stream to the east help mitigate the effects of hot and cold winds, creating a pollution-free environment on campus.

SMVDU offers an array of courses in the fields of engineering, Technology, Sciences, Management and Humanities and Social Sciences. The annual fees vary depending on the courses. For B.Tech and MBA the annual tuition fees are INR  1,41,000 and INR 1,76,000.

SMVDU Admission 2025

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra admissions are done through national-level eligibility tests and counseling for different courses. For the B.Tech degree program, SMVDU accepts JEE Main results and admissions are done through JoSAA/CSAB counseling. 

M.Tech admissions are done through GATE examinations and followed by direct counseling and for candidates without GATE results, SMVDU conducts an eligibility exam. Similarly for MBA, SMVDU accepts CAT/MAT/CMAT and CUET-PG results as means of admission. 

Admissions for a Bachelor’s of design are done through a valid UCEED rank followed by counseling and for a bachelor’s of architecture valid NATA score is followed by JoSAA counseling or direct counseling. Other admissions like MA, BA, B.SC and M.Sc are done as per CUET-UG/PG scores.

SMVDU Placement

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) has a comprehensive Training and Placement Cell, which is staffed by a team of Student Coordinators, Faculty Coordinators, and support staff. The cell plays a crucial role in facilitating Summer Training/Internships and Campus Placements for graduating students.

In addition to inviting companies to campus for recruitment drives, the Training and Placement Cell engages proactively with various academic departments to enhance students' soft skills. According to the NIRF data of SMVDU, a total of 333 students passed out from the 4 year UG program, out of which 222 students were placed with a median salary of INR 5.LPA. Similarly from the 2-year PG program, a total of 224 students graduated, out of which 71 students were placed with a median salary of INR 4.4 LPA.
