Situated at the banks of world famous Dal Lake, the National Institute of Technology Srinagar (NIT Srinagar) is one of the premier engineering institutes in the Northern region of India. Established in 1960, NIT Srinagar acquired the status of NIT with deemed-to-be University in 2003. The institute offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, architecture, management, computer applications, basic sciences, arts, humanities, and social sciences. As per the NIRF Ranking 2024, NIT Srinagar secured the 79th position in the engineering category.

B.Tech is the most popular program offered at NIT Srinagar. NIT Srinagar admission for BTech course mandates candidates with a Higher Secondary Certificate degree (10+2) with 75% marks with Mathematics being a compulsory subject. Admission to this program is based on a national-level entrance examination (JEE Main), after which seats are allocated as per the Centralized JoSAA/DASA Counselling. According to the NIRF Ranking 2023 report, NIT Srinagar admitted 3007 students under the UG program out of which 2225 are males and 782 are female. 

NIT Srinagar B.Tech tuition fees are INR 62,500 per semester for general (GEN/OBC-NCL/EWS) candidates. The tuition fee for GEN/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates whose family income is between INR 1 and 5 lakh is INR 20,833 LPA. SC/ST/PH candidates are exempt from tuition fees. GEN/OBC-NCL/EWS Candidates whose family income is less than 1 lakh are also exempted from paying tuition fees. 

B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is the most demanding program at NIT Srinagar. NIT Srinagar CSE opening and closing rank for 2023-24 is 15838 and 36020 (for Gender-Neutral candidates in the Jammu & Kashmir applicants), 124061 and 124061 (for Gender-Neutral candidates in the LA applicants), and 12931 and 22814 (for Gender-Neutral candidates in the other states) for the general category in round 6 of JoSAA Counselling. 

When it comes to placement, NIT Srinagar placement statistics for 2022-23 reflect that the placement percentage increased from 80.08% in 2022 to 108.38% in 2023. The highest and median CTC were INR 36.5 LPA and INR 10.48 LPA. A total of 724 offers were made to 668 students by recruiters like Samsung, IBM, Infosys, Maruti Suzuki, DE Shaw, Honda, JSW, Alstom, Amazon, Tech Mahindra, ACC, Cognizant, HDFC Bank, Zycus, Vivo, Pine Labs, Jio, Vedantu, and others.
