IIT Bhilai: Admission, Placements, Courses & Fees

The Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai (IIT Bhilai) is a public technical institute established in Chhattisgarh, India in the year 2016. IIT Bhilai offers a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, architecture, IT, basic science, arts, humanities, and social sciences. IIT Bhilai secured the 73rd position in the engineering category by NIRF Ranking 2024. 

The flagship course offered by IIT Bhilai is B.Tech. IIT Bhilai B.Tech. admission requires a Higher Secondary Certificate degree (10+2) with 75%. Admission to this program is done through a national-level examination (JEE Advanced) rank. Joint seat allocation will be through the centralized counselling conducted by JoSSA at the All-India level. As per the NIRF report 2023, IIT Bhilai admitted 594 (481 male and 113 female students) under the UG program. 

IIT Bhilai B.Tech. tuition fee is INR 1,00,000 per semester. SC/ST/PH students are exempted from tuition fees. Candidates from the Most Economically Backward category (whose family income is less than INR 1 Lakh per annum) shall get a complete waiver in tuition fees. Whereas, candidates from the Other Backward category (whose family income is between INR 1-5 Lakh per annum) shall get remission of two-thirds of the tuition fees. 

Computer Science and Engineering is the most competitive B.Tech program at IIT Bhilai. IIT Bhilai CSE All-India opening and closing rank is 3471 and 6516 for the gender-neutral open category in round 5 of JoSSA Counselling in 2024. 

When it comes to placement, IIT Bhilai has a good track record. The maximum, minimum, and average salary package for the academic year 2022-23 was INR 48.64 LPA, INR 7.73  LPA, and INR 18.97 LPA in the CSE program. A total registred students 137 and number of students place is 119. This session saw the participation of companies like Amazon, Cognizant, tech Mahindra, Jio, OYO, MAQ Software, LTI, Bosch, Deloitte, and others.

IIT Bhilai Scholarships 2025

IIT Bhilai offers scholarships to its meritorious students based on their financial status and/or academic performance. A few of them are listed below:

• Merit-cum-Means Scholarship- This scholarship is only available to undergraduate students in the UR and OBC categories. Up to 25% of students in these categories may be awarded scholarships. Students from Economically Backward category (whose family income is between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh per annum) who are already receiving a 2/3rd tuition fee waiver will also be eligible for a 1/3rd reimbursement of tuition fee per semester and pocket money of Rs. 1000/- per month. For UR students, the parent's income must not exceed Rs. 5 lakhs, and for OBC students, it must not exceed Rs. 6 lakhs. To maintain eligibility for the scholarship, students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 6.0.
  
• Institute SC/ST Scholarship- This scholarship is available to all undergraduate students in the SC and ST categories. It provides free messing and boarding (up to the amount collected by the institution) and a pocket money of Rs. 250/- per month. To be eligible, students must have a parental income not exceeding Rs. 4.5 lakhs per annum and maintain a minimum CGPA of 6.0.
  
  
• Institute Free Studentship Scholarship- 10% of undergraduate students, whose parental income does not exceed Rs. Rs. 5 lakhs per annum for General category students and Rs. 6 lakhs per annum for OBC students, will be eligible for a free studentship. Economically backward students (whose family income is between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakh per annum) who are already receiving a 2/3rd tuition fee waiver will also be eligible for a 1/3rd reimbursement of tuition fee per semester. A minimum CGPA of 6.0 is required to avail the benefits of this scholarship.
  
  
• Institute Fellowship to Postgraduate Students- Non-sponsored M.Tech. students with a valid GATE score will be paid a fellowship by the institute for a maximum of 21 months. Ph.D. students who are offered a fellowship by the institute will be paid a fellowship for 4 years, and may be continued for another year with a positive recommendation from the department. Students who are not resident on campus in a semester will not be eligible for an institute fellowship in that semester. All students who are offered an institute fellowship are expected to devote 8 hours per week to academic and administrative work (other than research and coursework) assigned to them.
