CLAT Syllabus 2024: The syllabus for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) varies between Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programs.   • The total number of subjects in UG will be 5, and in PG they will be 2

CLAT Syllabus for English Language

Applicants will be given passages to read for this section of the UG-CLAT, with an average of around 450 words each. A student in the 12th standard may well be able to read these excerpts in under 5 to 7 minutes, which will be taken from recent or historically relevant fiction and non-fiction writing.

Each passage will be followed by a series of questions that will test candidates' language and comprehension abilities, these abilities will be evaluated in the following ways:

  • Read and understand the main idea behind the passage as well as the different viewpoints and arguments presented
  • Based on the given passage, applicants must be able to draw conclusions and inferences
  • Candidates will also be asked to summarise the given passage
  • They must compare the given passages to understand the different points of view 
  • Must have a good command to understand different words and phrases

CLAT Syllabus for Logical Reasoning

The UG-CLAT 2024 Logical Reasoning exam will consist of a number of brief passages, each around 300 words long. Following each passage, there will be one or more questions that ask students to:

  • Identify the drawn conclusions, their premises, and the argument
  • Carefully understand the viewpoints presented in the passage
  • Critically analyze different patterns and assess the different conclusions
  • Apply different inferences to new situations
  • Draw analogies and relationships 
  • Recognize equivalence and contradictions
  • Analyze the effectiveness of the presented arguments

CLAT Syllabus for Legal Reasoning

Applicants must read passages totalling about 450 words each for this section. The paragraphs may deal with actual events involving legal issues, issues of public policy, or moral philosophical concerns. Although students won't need any prior legal understanding to answer these questions. They will be better able to apply broad premises or principles to the supplied fact scenarios if they have a general understanding of current legal and moral challenges. In this particular section, students must:

  • Recognise and analyze the principles and rules presented in the given passage
  • Apply principles and rules to various fact situations
  • Carefully understand how altered principles and rules may change the application to various situations

CLAT Syllabus for Quantitative Techniques

Short sets of propositions or facts, graphs, or other textual, visual, or diagrammatic representations of numerical data will be included in the Quantitative Techniques section of the UG-CLAT. Based on this, various questions will follow. Candidates will need to use mathematical operations to extract information from such passages, graphs, or other representations. They will be required to-

  • Obtain, infer, and alter the numerical data presented in such texts, graphs, or other representations.
  • Apply numerous mathematical operations from the 10th standard, including those from areas like basic algebra, ratios, and proportions statistical estimates and, mensuration.

CLAT Syllabus for Current Affairs

candidates will be given passages in this section that are each no longer than 450 words. The texts will be taken from non-fiction writing, journalistic copies, and news sources. While the passages may also include specific legal questions but knowledge of the law would not be required to solve them. This section will test the General Knowledge skills of applicants which is an important part of the Law Curriculum
