CLAT Counselling 2026: Schedule, Registration, Round 1 Seat Allotment in top NLUs

CLAT Counselling 2026 Registration has been started on December 16 at consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Shortlisted candidates can register for CLAT 2026 Counselling till December 27, 2025.

CLAT Counselling 2026: As the CLAT 2026 results are announced, the Consortium of NLUs has started the CLAT Counselling Registration 2026 on December 16. Eligible candidates can register for CLAT Counselling 2026 till December 27, 2025. The seat allotment for first round will be declared on January 7, 2026, at 10 AM. The counselling process for CLAT 2026 exam will be conducted in three rounds. 

Students who qualified in CLAT 2026 will be eligible to participate in the counselling process by paying the required fee. The counselling fee for CLAT 2026 is Rs 30,000 for the general category and Rs 20,000 for the reserved category. Only the candidates who scored above the minimum marks required in the CLAT result will be invited for counselling. Selected students must accept/decline the offered college and seat for the next applicant to be contacted for those positions.

CLAT Counselling 2026

The CLAT counselling functions on the following rounds: registration, CLAT result, and seat allotment. The shortlisted students will need to accept the given seat and college or forfeit it so that the next candidate in line can be called for the same. The CLAT 2026 counselling process will be held in three rounds until all of the participating NLUs' seats are occupied.

CLAT Counselling 2026: Registration

Before the eligible students get to participate in the counselling round, they are required to register for it by paying a sum of fee. Each of the shortlisted candidates has been invited to register on the official NLU website. Five college preferences will be available at the time of registration. Note that after the deadline for CLAT counselling registration, candidates won't be able to make any modifications. Only applicants who take part in CLAT Counselling 2026 will be considered eligible for the seat allocation process.

How to register for the counselling process?

After the declaration of the result, students must check their scorecards, and eligible students will be asked to register for the counselling process based on merit and the invite lists. Furthermore, they will be asked to select any 5 NLUs according to their preference. The candidate's rank and test scores will be taken into account while considering their preferences at the time of counselling. After students will be done selecting their preferred choices, they will be asked to pay the fee after which the registration will be completed. The entire process will be done on the official website only.

CLAT Counselling Registration Fee

As discussed earlier, students will need to pay a counselling registration fee which will be INR 30,000. A candidate will be given a total reimbursement of Rs. 30,000 without any deductions if they are unsuccessful in getting a seat in any of the NLUs. While a candidate would only receive a partial refund of Rs. 20,000 if they decide to withdraw from the CLAT Counselling Process or do not accept any of the seats given in any of the three lists announced by the Consortium. Additionally, only Rs. 20,000 would be returned if a candidate proves to be ineligible based on the documents or information they have submitted.

After the merit list is declared, the seat allotment process will begin. For the year 2026, there will be a total of 5 seat allotment rounds. Check below to know the dates for the same.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the CLAT counselling fee?

Applicants who are eligible to sit for the counselling will need to pay the required fee. This amount will be INR 50000.

Is the CLAT Counselling fee refundable?

Yes, in case the students fail to get a seat in one of the NLUs or any other college, they will be refunded back the full amount of the paid fee. Moreover, they will be returned half the amount if they withdraw themselves from the counselling process.

Will the counselling be done online?

Yes, the mode of CLAT counselling is online. The entire process including registration, the release of the merit list, and seat allocation will be done online.

Will students on the invite list be admitted to the target CLAT college?

It is possible that many students on the wait list may get a seat in one of the NLUs. Although, the first preference will always be given to students on the merit list.

Can the preferred colleges be changed during the CLAT counselling process?

No, once the selection of preferred colleges has been made during the counselling registration process, they will not be altered or changed later on.
