Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT) was established on 28 August 1998 by the Government of Manipur as the state’s first engineering college. Over the years, it underwent several changes in name and administration before being renamed MIT in 2005 and becoming a constituent college of Manipur University.

The institute focuses on delivering quality engineering education with an emphasis on innovation, research, and social responsibility. MIT operates from its Takyelpat and Canchipur campuses in Imphal and offers programmes through departments such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, and Electronics Engineering.
