Punjab Agricultural University is situated in Ludhiana, Punjab. It was established in 1962 and inaugurated by Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on July 8, 1963. PAU is recognised by the University Grant Commission (UGC), and the Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and as per the NIRF report the university has ranked 3rd in the agricultural category. The University is spread over an area of 94 hectares in Ludhiana, together with 1793 hectares off-campus.

In addition, the PAU Pre-Graduation Institutes of Agriculture at Gurdaspur and Bathinda, the university currently has six constituent colleges: College of Agriculture, PAU-College of Agriculture Ballowal Saunkhri, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities, College of Community Science, and College of Horticulture and Forestry. In 1995, it was named as the Best Agricultural University in India.

Currently, the university provides 43 Master's and 29 Ph.D. programs in addition to 11 undergraduate programs in Ludhiana and outlying areas through 32 departments and 3 schools among the six constituent institutions.

Apart from these, the university has 2917 workers, of which 771 are faculty members and 2146 are non staff members. The districts of Amritsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Samrala (Ludhiana), Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, etc are home to the university's eighteen Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).

Students need to pass  10th with at least 65% marks in aggregate with Math and Science as compulsory subjects. 

M Sc (Hons) Agri

2 + 4 Years

Students need to pass  bachelor degree with at least 65% marks in aggregate with Math and Science as compulsory subjects and need to score AAT entrance exam

M Sc (Hons)

5 Years

Student need to pass  bachelor degree or with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology/ Agriculture with at least 50% marks in aggregate and need to give CET Entrance examination

Punjab Agricultural University Eligibility 2024

Firstly, students have to fill the form of eligibility for appearing in the entrance examination. The university conducts its own entrance examinations such as BSET/CET/AAT/MET for various programmes. For PhD programmes, there is a PET, research aptitude test, and work experience. Admission is then granted based on the results of the final selection procedure, which consists of a personal interview of the candidates.

  • For undergraduate programmes candidates need to pass 10+2 from a recognised board with 50% marks.
  • For postgraduate programmes, candidates need to pass a bachelor's degree from a recognised university with 65% marks.
