The University of Mysore was established on July 27, 1916. It is the sixth oldest in the country and the first in the state of Karnataka. Also, in a sense it is the first university of the country to be established outside the limits of British India.

It was the first University to be accredited by NAAC in 2000 with five star status. The University is now ranked 44th in the India Rankings 2023, NIRF - MHRD, Government of India. Second cycle of re -  accreditation by NAAC in 2006 with ‘A’ Level. NIRF Ranking 2020 by MHRD, Govt. of India: University of Mysore got 27th position,1st in Karnataka, 47th position as per overall assessment criteria.

Mysore University is recognized/ approved by UGC - DEB, AICTE, and member of Association of Indian Universities.

There are more than 65 courses, all over UG, PG, and PhD Science, Engineering, Arts and more other streams. Also in PG programs there are faculty of Arts, faculty of science and technology, faculty of education, faculty of law, faculty of commerce with their eligibility to take admission in Mysore University.  

Further, there are 11 PG Departments with National Research Facilities, 14 Chairs, 13 DST- FIST, UGC - SAP funded departments and 13 supportive units.    

The University of Mysore offers various academic programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD. Apart from regular courses, Mysore University provides distance learning programmes like BA, BBA, B Com, MA, M Sc and many more subjects.

The University of Mysore admission to UG, PG and Doctoral courses based on Merit or Entrance exam scores. The University conducts its entrance exam for admission to various UG and PG courses.

Administrative Office 

The administrative offices of the university are housed in the Crawford Hal, an imposing building adjacent to Kukkarahalli lake, known for its scenic splendor. The offices of the Vice - Chancellor, the Finance Officer and the Public Grievance Cell are located in the building. 

Auditoria

Facilities for co - curricular activities exist in the University. There are five auditoria -  one each at the Maharaja’s College at Fine Arts for women, Humanities  Block at Manasagangotri, Bahadur Institute of Management Studies. These facilities are available for use by the students for cultural programmes and competitions such as debate, music, dance, drama and also has a spacious open air - air theater with a seating capacity of 10,000 where cultural programmes for large gathering could be held. 

Banking Service

The State Bank of India has two branches in the University, one at the Manasagangotri Campus and the other at Crawford Hall, which provide banking and ATM service.

Cafeteria

There is a centrally located canteen on the Manasagangotri campus which caters to the needs of the students, faculty and the general public.

Health Centre

There are two Health Centers one located on the Mharaja;s College campus and the other at the Manasagangotri campus of the university of Mysore, to take care of the medical needs of the students, faculty and staff of the university.

Library

The University Library located on the Manasagangotri campus caters to the needs of students, research scholars and faculty of the students. More than 75,000 bound volumes of the journals and nearly six lakh references and textbooks are available.The library also enables access to 18,000 e - books, 7500 e - journals and online public access catalogs.

Transport Facilities

The KSRTC piles city buses to the campus from all corners of the city with a frequency of 20 minutes. The campus is about 6 kms. From the city Railway Station.

Hostel Facilities

The University maintains seven Men;s hostels and four Women’s hostels. Students may approach the Director of students welfare/ wardens of the hostels for further information regarding admissions to these hotels.
