Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is a deemed university located in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU), founded on 7 September 1990, is a public state university in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, named after the illustrious Tamil scholar and poet Manonmaniam Sundaram Pillai. It was specifically founded to provide higher education to the rural and economically disadvantaged segments of society, particularly in the southern districts of Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari. Located on a vast 550-acre rural campus, the university is made up of 24 academic departments, 6 schools, and oversees more than 100 affiliated colleges.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) possesses a vibrant Placement and Career Counselling Cell that specifically serves rural and economically backward students of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari districts. 

1. The university's official Self-Study Report (2025) states that the overall placement percentage of outgoing students for the past five years stands at 51.32%, while another 41.7% of the students go for higher studies.

3. For postgraduate 2-year courses such as M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, MBA, and MCA, the 2022-23 academic year has had 734 students enrolled, of which 220 got placed with a median of ₹3 lakh per annum.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University holds Ph.D. admissions twice a year, normally in the January and July sessions. For the January 2025 session, the online application window was opened on April 1, 2025, and closed on April 20, 2025. Candidates should have a Master's degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks. Candidates who possess degrees such as NET, SET, JRF, or GATE are exempted from the entry examination. Admission is done by a single-window online process, where the applicant can select up to five choice research centres or supervisors. The selection is done through a university-level entrance test, with a weightage of 70%, along with 30% of postgraduate marks of the candidate. Shortlisted candidates are invited for interview and counselling, and seat allotment is done on merit as well as reservation policy.

After provisional admission, candidates must pay a registration fee of ₹25,000 and an application fee of ₹2,000.
