IIM Lucknow has released the CAT Answer Key 2023 on its official website. Candidates can challenge the answer key till December 08, 2023. Students can expect the CAT result 2023 to be announced in the first week of January 2024.
CAT Result 2023: The Common Admission Test, commonly known as CAT, is one of the most prestigious MBA entrance exams in India. The results of the CAT exam are eagerly awaited by thousands of MBA aspirants, as they hold the key to securing admission to some of the top B-schools in the country.
The CAT results are typically announced a few weeks after the exam and are available on the official website of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), which conducts the exam. The results are usually released in the form of a scorecard, which includes the candidate's overall score, as well as their scores in the individual sections of the exam. After the successful completion of the exam, IIM Lucknow will also release the list of toppers who will score more than 99.98 percentile.
IIM will also use the normalisation method to calculate the CAT percentile. Students who qualify the required CAT score by different institutes will be called for the WAT & GD/PI round. The final selection will be done on the basis of the overall performance of the candidate in the written examination, WAT, & GD/PI. Some institutes also give weightage to the previous academic record and work experience of the candidate.
The CAT score is a crucial factor in the selection process for MBA programs in IIMs, IITs and 200+ Business Schools in India, however, some premiere management institutes like XLRI do not accept CAT scores for admission into their management programmes. Therefore a high CAT score can open the door to some of the most sought-after business schools in India.

CAT Percentile: Steps to Calculate?
- To keep transparency in the CAT result procedure, the IIM publishes the CAT Percentile and Score Calculation methodology.
- CAT raw scores are converted into scaled scores and then into CAT Percentile.
- As per CAT Exam Pattern, each question is of 3 marks. For each wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted. However, there is no negative marking for questions which are Non-MCQ.
Three important steps in calculating the CAT percentile are
- The CAT overall scores are computed after the section-by-section scores have been determined.
- In the second step, both section-wise and overall raw scores are normalised to calculate the scaled CAT scores.
- In the last step, these normalised scores are converted into CAT percentiles.
Calculation of CAT Score (Raw Scores)
- CAT Score = No. of Correct Answer 3 - (No. of Incorrect Answers 1)
Calculation of CAT Percentile
- Step 1: Take Total no. of candidates = N, who have appeared in both shifts
- Step 2: Assign rank = R, based on the scores obtained in a section. If two candidates have scored the same scores then the same ranks will be assigned.
- Step 3: Calculate the CAT Percentile P, for a candidate who has scores rank R using the formula P= (N-r)/ N ) *100
- Step 4: Round off the CAT Percentile P, like 99.995 is rounded off to 100 but if the percentile is less than 99.995 it will be rounded off to 99.99
