CAT 2025 Result: Next Steps

IIMs shortlist candidates for the interview stage based on their own criteria, which may be independent of each other. The IIM CAT admission process may include Writing Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). Performance in the CAT 2025 examination is an important component in the admission process. IIMs may additionally use other factors, such as the previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience, gender and academic diversity for shortlisting and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process.

IIM will also use the normalisation method to calculate the CAT percentile. Students who score above the required CAT cut-off 2025 will be called for the WAT & GD/PI round. The final selection will be done on the basis of the overall performance of the candidate in the written examination, WAT, & GD/PI. Some institutes also give weightage to the previous academic record and work experience of the candidate.

CAT 2025 Result: Normalisation Process

The CAT 2025 exam was conducted in three sessions on November 30, 2025. In order to ensure fairness and equity in comparison of the performances of candidates across different test sessions, the scores of the CAT 2025 candidates are subjected to a process of normalisation. The normalisation process adjusts for location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms. After normalisation across different forms, the scores are further normalised across different sections. The scaled scores obtained by this process are converted into percentiles for purposes of shortlisting.

Interested candidates can check the expected qualifying CAT cut-off for different IIMs. Students must note that this analysis is only indicative. Also note that clearing the qualifying cut-off does not necessarily mean that they will be granted admission to their preferred programme.

Candidates must note that the CAT 2025 scorecard is valid only till December 31, 2026.

Last year, 14 candidates achieved a perfect 100-percentile in the CAT exam. Additionally, 29 candidates secured a 99.99 percentile, while 30 candidates attained a 99.98 percentile.

To keep transparency in the CAT result procedure, the IIM publishes the CAT percentile and score calculation methodology. CAT raw scores are converted into scaled scores and then into the CAT percentile. As per the CAT exam pattern 2025, each question is of three marks. For each wrong answer, 1 one mark is deducted. However, there is no negative marking for questions that are non-MCQ.

Three important steps in calculating the CAT percentile are

  • The CAT overall scores are computed after the section-by-section scores have been determined.
  • In the second step, both section-wise and overall raw scores are normalised to calculate the scaled CAT scores.
  • In the last step, these normalised scores are converted into CAT percentiles.

Calculation of CAT Score (Raw Scores)

  • CAT Score = No. of Correct Answer  3 - (No. of Incorrect Answers  1)

Calculation of CAT Percentile

  • Step 1: Take total number of candidates = N, who have appeared in both shifts
  • Step 2: Assign rank = R, based on the scores obtained in a section. If two candidates have scored the same scores, then the same ranks will be assigned.
  • Step 3: Calculate the CAT Percentile P, for a candidate who has scores rank R using the formula P= (N-r)/ N*100
  • Step 4: Round off the CAT Percentile P, like 99.995 is rounded off to 100, but if the percentile is less than 99.995, it will be rounded off to 99.99

Please note that there is no negative marking for incorrect non-MCQ questions.

CAT Percentile Range vs Overall Score

The CAT 2025 results will be announced on the official website, iimcat.ac.in. Candidates can access their scorecards using their CAT application ID and password. The CAT 2025 score is valid only till December 31, 2026.
