The University began as a small agricultural research farm in 1899 on 30 acres of land donated by Her Excellency Maharani Kempa Nanjammanni Vani Vilasa Sannidhiyavaru, the Regent of Mysore.The University offers both online and offline courses and is known for its variety of courses.

University of Agricultural Sciences Placement 2025 

The University has a dedicated placement cell and has a decent placement rate of around 70-80%.During 2023–24, a total of 111 students were placed via the university’s placement cell. Of these, 105 were placed in the private sector and 6 in the banking sector. The University helps students to build industry ready skills and helps them in placement. Also seminars are held regularly for students to equip them with knowledge shared by industry professionals.

The University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bangalore has Ph.D. programs in several of its disciplines like Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, Forestry, and allied sciences. Admissions are generally carried out once a year, generally during the month of July, according to the academic calendar of the university.

Candidates should be possessing a Master's degree in the concerned subject from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade point average), relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled categories as per UGC norms.

Choice to the Ph.D. programme is on the basis of performance in a university-level entrance test along with a viva voce. Those with a valid ICAR-AICE-JRF/SRF (Ph.D.) are exempted from the written entrance test but need to come for the interview. The written examination is composed of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) on Research Methodology and subject matter relating to the field. The candidates have to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the written test in order to qualify for the interview.

The last merit list is drawn by assigning 70% weightage to the written entrance exam and 30% weightage to the performance in the interview. Admissions are made strictly on merit, seat availability, and reservation rules. Ph.D. course duration is between a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years, extendable according to UGC and university rules.
