The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati was established in 1994 and is one of India's premier technical institutions. In the recent QS World University Rankings 2024, IIT Guwahati achieved a global rank of 32 for 'Research Citations per Faculty' and an overall rank of 364. In the NIRF Ranking 2023, IIT Guwahati secured the 7th position in the engineering category with an overall score of 69.04.  

IIT Guwahati also stands out as the sole educational institution in India to secure a position within the top 100 global universities, specifically in the category for institutions under 50 years of age, as per the 2014 rankings by Times Higher Education (THE). 

The institute secured the 2nd rank in the 'Swachhata Ranking' conducted by the Government of India (GoI), showcasing its dedication to cleanliness and hygiene. IIT Guwahati offers various programmes including B.Tech., B.Des., M.A., M.Des., M.Tech., M.Sc., MBA, and Ph.D. courses. The admission details of the main programmes offered by IITG is provided below:

IIT Guwahati B.Tech Admission

IIT Guwahati offers a 4-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programme in various disciplines.

• Candidates desiring admission to the B.Tech programme are required to qualify for the JEE Main & JEE Advanced exams with a passing score and to get eligible for the JoSAA counseling process
• After the conclusion of the counseling round, the institution will assess candidates' performance based on their exam scores
• Selected candidates need to submit the prescribed amount of fees to secure their admission in the IIT Guwahati

IIT Guwahati M.Tech Admission

IIT Guwahati provides a 2-year Master of Technology (M.Tech) programme across different fields. To be eligible for admission to the M.Tech program, candidates must hold a four-year Bachelor's degree in the relevant field with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks.

• Candidates need to appear for the GATE exam with a qualifying score to sit in the COAP counseling session.
• The institute will evaluate candidates based on their GATE exam scores and shortlist them
• Shortlisted candidates will then participate in a Personal Interview (PI) round.
• After the PI round, the institute will make the final seat allocations
• Selected candidates need to submit their fees to confirm their admission

IIT Guwahati M.Sc Admission

• Candidates need to qualify for the  IIT JAM exam to get admitted into MSc courses
• They must also participate in the JAM counseling session.
• After this, the institute will release seat allocation results, inviting students for document verification and fee submission.

IIT Guwahati Ph.D Admission

To be eligible for admission to the IIT Guwahati’s PhD program, candidates either have a Master's degree with a minimum of 60% marks or a four-year Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 70% marks in the relevant field of study.

• Candidates need to appear for the entrance exam and after this, selected candidates will be invited to a personal interview round. 
• Shortlisted candidates will have to visit the campus for document verification to secure admission.

IIT Guwahati Placement

The overall placement rate for B.Tech and B.Des students stood at 89.14%, with 583 job offers extended to 654 students in these courses. The average annual package offered to these B.Tech and B.Des students amounted to Rs. 25.89 Lakhs.

For M.Tech. and M.Des students, the overall placement rate was 70.57%, with 307 job offers made to 435 students. The average annual package offered to M.Tech and M.Des students was Rs. 17.18 Lakhs.
