Established in 1920 during the British Raj.The University is the largest public university in Uttar Pradesh with around 500 colleges affiliated to it. Lucknow University P.hD admissions

The admission for 2025 has been closed. The admissions to the P.hD programme will be done on the basis of the NTA UGC NET exam 2025. The admissions for 2026 will open tentatively around June 2026.

Candidates who qualify under Category-1 of the UGC-NET examination are eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to Ph.D. programmes. This category represents the highest level of qualification in the exam, and such candidates are often admitted to Ph.D. programmes through a university-conducted interview, in accordance with UGC guidelines. Those qualifying under Category-2 are eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admission, but do not receive the JRF stipend. Category-3 candidates are only eligible for Ph.D. admission and are not entitled to Assistant Professorship or the JRF award. Thus, the JRF qualification opens the most comprehensive pathway, combining financial support, teaching eligibility, and research opportunities.
