Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, also known as the University of Pune or UniPune, is a collegiate public state university established in 1949. The university's 411-acre campus is home to 46 departments offering a variety of academic programmes. About 307 recognized research institutes and 612 allied colleges that offer doctoral, postgraduate and undergraduate programmes are part of UniPune.

SPPU is one of the best public institutions in India. The 2023 QS World University Rankings place it between range #541 and 550. According to Asian University Ranking, it is ranked 180. SPPU is ranked 19th among the best universities in India according to the most recent NIRF 2023 ranking. The institution has attained a rank of 35 in the overall category of the NIRF Ranking 2023. According to the Center for World University Ranking, SPPU also ranks 38th in the country and 1444th among the top 2000 international universities (CWUR). There are more than 6.65 lakh students in colleges that are associated with the University of Pune. SPPU provides admission to a variety of UG, PG, and PhD programmes. Aspiring students can choose from a few integrated and diploma programmes as well. Except for a few, the majority of undergraduate programmes admit students based on their performance in the 10+2 examination. For admission to the B.Tech (Aviation), BBA (Hospitality & Facilities Management), B.Voc, BA (Liberal Arts), B.Sc, and PG programmes, the institute holds an online entrance examination (OEE).

Each course has a different fee structure depending on the amenities offered. The university charges its students subsidized fees. The annual fee range for BA and MA programmes is roughly INR 30,000, while the annual fee of the B.Tech. and M.Tech. programmes surpasses INR 1 lakh.

However, students in the SC/ST/OBC categories as well as students from the local state are eligible for a multitude of scholarships from SPPU. For minority students, UniPune provides central government post-matric scholarships. In order to increase the students' reciprocal and bilateral advantages, the institution also provides UK-India Education and Research Initiative Scholarships to the students.

The Training and Placement Cell is the SPPU’s placement unit. Students were directly hired on campus in 2022 by prestigious firms including Infosys, TCS, IBM, Cognizant, ICICI Prudential, and more. The highest package offered to students was for INR 14.8 lakh per year, and the average package was for INR 6.5 lakh per year.

As of now, there are 293 faculty members in campus departments of the university. The majority of academics have doctorates in their areas of specialization and have been teaching for at least ten years.

The Pune University conducts Online Entrance Exam (OEE) for various UG and PG courses offered by the University. The dates for the OEE is given below.

• The Pune University Online Entrance Exam (OEE) is conducted for a duration for 2 hours.

SPPU admits qualified students to approximately 250 courses. SPPU Pune admissions to various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate programs are based on entrance tests administered by the institution. For admission to a select programs, such as MBA and M.Tech, the institute accepts CAT/ATMA and GATE scores, respectively. The complete admission procedure at SPPU is as follows:

• Candidates seeking admission to UG programs must fulfil the eligibility criteria set by the university.

• Appear for the GATE examination and obtain a valid score

• Following the PI round, the institute will release the final merit list.

UniPune (SPPU) Facilities & Infrastructure

The institution provides several amenities for students and faculty. These amenities contribute to the comfort of students throughout their stay at the university. The following are some of the amenities provided by SPPU:

Jayakar Library: Jayakar Library is one of the premier research and reference facilities in the country. The library is subscribed to Indian and foreign research publications and receives periodicals for free or in exchange. It has around 4,50,627 books and journals on numerous subjects.

Hostels, Guest House & Staff Quarters: More than 1221 students are housed in seven Boys' Hostels and six Girls' Hostels run by the University. It also features a nice and well-furnished University Guest House with more than 34 rooms and eating amenities. The Set Bhavan Guest House features 16 single rooms and 16 double rooms, each with its own kitchenette. Furthermore, the University has on-campus housing for around 115 teaching professors and approximately 294 non-teaching personnel. All of the amenities are being repaired and rebuilt in stages.

Cafeteria: The University Refectory is located in the Sociology, Chemistry, and Physics Departments and serves meals at affordable charges in a neat and tidy setting. Aside from the Café, there are various Kiosk Canteens positioned across the campus that provide refreshments and snacks from morning hours until late at night.

Sports Complex: The Sports Complex features a huge open field for outdoor Indian and European team athletics and sports. In addition, indoor gaming facilities are provided. Basketball Courts, four Auditoriums, and an Amphitheater can be found on the University Campus, as well as large parks and gardens, volleyball courts, cricket and football fields, a Gymnasium, and a sports hostel.
