FMGE Exam Pattern 2023: National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) releases the exam pattern of the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). The FMGE exam pattern 2023 consists of the number and type of questions, exam duration, mode of exam, marking scheme, and other details.
The FMGE exam consists of a single paper of 300 multiple-choice questions. However, the exam is delivered in two parts: Part 1 and Part 2, with each part consisting of 150 multiple-choice questions. The exam duration of each of the two parts is 150 minutes. The FMGE exam is a Computer-Based Test (CBT).
Each of the FMGE questions has 4 response questions, and candidates need to select one correct response out of the given options. There is no negative marking in the examination. Candidates need to score at least 150 marks out of 300 marks to clear the FMGE exam.

- FMGE exam consists of two types of subjects: a) Pre and Para Clinical Subjects and b) Clinical Subjects.
- The pre and para-clinical subjects include Physiology, Anatomy, Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, and Pharmacology.
- The total marks weightage of pre and para-clinical subjects is 100 marks.
- Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry carry 17 marks each. Pathology, Microbiology, and Pharmacology are worth 13 marks each. Forensic Medicine carries 10 marks.
- The clinical subjects include Medicine And Allied Subjects, General Surgery And Allied Subjects, Pediatrics, Community Medicine, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics And Gynaecology, and Otorhinolaryngology.
- The total marks weightage of clinical subjects is 200 marks.
- Medicine carries 33 marks. Radiotherapy, Psychiatry, Dermatology and STD, Anesthesiology, Orthopedics, and Radiodiagnosis carry 5 marks each. General Surgery carries 32 marks. Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, and Otorhinolaryngology are worth 15 marks each. Community Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology have a weightage of 30 marks each.
