TNEA Eligibility Criteria 2025: The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) exam is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu for admission to engineering undergraduate courses at different universities of Tamil Nadu. Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria can apply for the TNEA 2025 exam. The TNEA application process is open on the official website.

According to the TNEA eligibility criteria, candidates must have passed class 12th with Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry. Aspirants must have scored a minimum of 45% marks in their Class 12 in order to apply for the exam. However, students from the reserved category must have a minimum of 40% in their Class 12.

Candidates fulfilling the eligibility requirements can fill out the TNEA application form. The candidature of students will be rejected if they fail to fulfil the basic eligibility requirements.

TNEA Eligibility Criteria 2025

The eligibility criteria for the TNEA exam 2025 is divided into two categories: Nativity & Education Qualification. Admission to UG engineering programs requires candidates to meet the eligibility criteria in full. Interested candidates can check the detailed TNEA eligibility criteria below:

TNEA Eligibility Criteria 2025: Nativity

  • Candidates who passed their Class 12 from Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply for the exam. 
  • Candidates who passed their Class 12 outside Tamil Nadu are also eligible to apply for the exam, however, they have to submit proof of nativity.
  • Candidates who are son/daughter of Central Government employees serving in the state of Tamil Nadu from the last 5 years are eligible to apply for the exam. Such students are required to produce a certificate from the employer of their parent/guardian.
  • All Indian Service Tamil Nadu cadre officials' wards are eligible to take the TNEA exam.
  • Wards of Tamil Nadu employees who have worked consistently for the last five years in the public sector or at government-recognized institutions are also eligible to apply. For it, they do not need to produce a domicile certification.

TNEA Eligibility Criteria 2025: Education Qualifications

Details on the minimum academic requirements for applicants to be qualified for TNEA 2025 are described below. TNEA 2025 Eligibility  based on Criteria Qualifying Exams is as follows:

  • Candidates from General Category must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as mandatory subjects. Students must have scored a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate.
  • Students from backward class including backward Muslim candidates must have passed Class 12 with PCM as mandatory subject with a minimum of aggregate 40% marks.
  • Students from SC/ST/SCA category must have a minimum aggregate of 40% marks in their Class 12. They must also have passed their class 12 with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
  • Students from Most Backward Class (MBC) and Denotified Class (DNC) are eligible to apply for the TNEA exam provided they have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate.

TNEA Eligibility Criteria for Marine Engineering

Candidates who are wishing to take admission into the Marine Engineering branch must fulfil additional eligibility requirements apart from the basic eligibility criteria as stated above. The detailed eligibility criteria for admission to the Marine Engineering branch through the TNEA exam is as follows:

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12
  • Candidates must have mandatory subjects as Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics in their Class 12
  • The minimum percentage of marks should be 60% as aggregate. 
  • Candidates must not have crossed the upper age limit of 25 years.
  • Candidates wishing to take admission to the Marine Engineering branch must also fulfil physical requirements as well. The physical measurements are stated below:

Minimum Weight: 48 Kg

Minimum Height: 157cm

Colour Vision: Normal/Standard

TNEA Eligibility For SriLankan Tamil Refugees

The Government of Tamil Nadu also allows Srilankan Tamil Refugees to participate in the admission process. However, such applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  • They must submit a duplicate passport, visa & letter registered with the police station
  • Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee Candidates must also submit a Recognition Certificate from Go Areas Tahsildar.

Under TNEA 2025, who may apply for a category reservation?

Only native Tamil Nadu candidates would be considered for category reservation. Other candidates would have to compete under Open Category.

If I completed my 10+2 in Tamil Nadu, do I still require a nativity certificate for TNEA 2025?

No. Tamil Nadu residents who have completed their 10+2th grade may apply for TNEA. Nativity Certification need not be a part of their TNEA application form.

What are the TNEA qualifying requirements for applicants to the marine engineering programme?

To be eligible for the TNEA exam, applicants for maritime engineering must meet the following requirements.

  • Candidates must have earned a minimum cumulative percentage of 60% in maths, physics, and chemistry in order to be considered.
  • Candidates must have received a minimum grade of 50% in English in class 12.
  • The maximum age for a candidate is 25 years old.
  • Candidates must weigh at least 48 kilogrammes and stand at least 157 centimetres tall.
  • Candidates must be able to see colours normally. They must have a standard vision.

Can children of government employees in Tamil Nadu apply for TNEA 2025?

Yes. You are eligible to apply for TNEA 2025 if your parents have 5 or more years of government service in Tamil Nadu.
