The UPSC toppers are determined based on their overall performance in the Civil Services Examination, which consists of three stages: the Preliminary exam, the Mains exam, and the Personality Test (Interview). The final ranking is derived from the total scores of the Mains and Interview stages, with the top performers securing the highest ranks. This year’s toppers list will be released after the final result is announced in April 2025.

Over the years, a trend has emerged where candidates with a strong balance of analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and in-depth knowledge of current affairs consistently make it to the top of the list. UPSC Toppers 2024: Gender wise

In recent years, UPSC results have consistently reflected a balanced gender representation, with an increasing number of female candidates securing top ranks. The UPSC 2023 topper's list, for instance, saw a remarkable performance from women, with a female candidate securing the top spots. The trend continues as more women are breaking stereotypes and dominating one of the most competitive exams in the country.

With six women candidates making it in the top ten, female aspirants have shown significant growth in both participation and success rates, narrowing the gap with their male counterparts. As we await the UPSC Topper’s final list 2024, it is expected that this balance will continue, with a diverse range of top scorers representing both genders. Here is a list of top ten women candidates in the UPSC topper’s list 2023.

UPSC Toppers 2024: Stream wise

The UPSC exam has long attracted candidates from diverse educational backgrounds, with engineering graduates traditionally making up a significant portion of the toppers’ list. In 2023, nearly half of the top 100 candidates came from engineering backgrounds, showcasing the continued dominance of this stream. The analytical and problem-solving skills developed through technical education often give engineering graduates an edge in certain portions of the exam, particularly in the prelims and the optional subject selection.

However, the success of non-engineering candidates has been equally noteworthy. Arts, humanities, and social science graduates have consistently performed well, leveraging their strong grasp of theoretical knowledge and current affairs. The 2023 results showed that a substantial number of candidates securing the top 10 ranks hailed from non-engineering streams and chose subjects like political science, history, and public administration as their optional subject.

As we analyse trends for the UPSC Toppers List 2024, it is expected that this balance between engineering and non-engineering candidates will persist. Nevertheless, non-engineering aspirants continue to prove that diverse academic backgrounds can lead to success in UPSC. Below is the UPSC Toppers List 2023 with Optional Subjects.
