Ph.D. in Science
IIT Goa offers PhD programmes in Science - Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The minimum qualification for the programme is a 2 year master’s degree in the relevant subject from a recognized institution. The highlights of the course are given below:
- Candidates applying for the Ph.D. programme at IIT Goa must have qualified GATE/CSIR/UGC-NET/JEST or have Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR Fellowship in the relevant streams.
- They must also have passed M.Sc. in the relevant subject from a institute/university.
- They must have scored minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in the qualifying degree.
- Candidates with Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent from a recognised institute/university are eligible without any GATE score.
- Candidates who have completed B.E./B.Tech./MCA or equivalent from a recognised institute/ university are also eligible to apply for PhD in Science with a valid score in GATE examination or one of fellowship mentioned above.
- Candidates with BTech in Mathematics and Computing from the IITs with at least 8.0 CGPA can apply without a GATE score for PhD in Mathematics.
- Admission to the course is based on the entrance test and interview conducted by the department.
- The tuition fee for the PhD at IIT Goa is INR 2,500 per semester.

The total fee for full-time Ph.D. program at IIT Goa is INR 55,200 for the first semester. This fee includes tuition fee, semester charges, one time admission fee and the deposits. The components of the total fees are as follows. Tuition Fee = INR 2,500 per semester One Time Fee = INR 9,600 Refundable Security Deposits = INR 3000 Semester Fee = INR 18,800 Mess Fee = INR 18,000 per semester Mess Advance = INR 2,000 Medical Insurance = INR 1,300 p.a. For Ph.D. admission at IIT Goa, candidates must have following qualifications:

- M.Sc. in the relevant subject from a institute/university.

Alternatively, candidates can have any one of the following qualifications for Ph.D. admissions
- Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent from a recognised institute/university without any GATE score.
- B.E./B.Tech./MCA or equivalent from a recognised institute/ university with a valid score in GATE examination or one of fellowship mentioned above.
- BTech in Mathematics and Computing from the IITs with at least 8.0 CGPA without a GATE score for PhD in Mathematics.
Candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PwD categories must have 55% marks in the qualifying degree.
