Ph.D. in Engineering
IIT Goa offers PhD programmes in four Engineering disciplines. Candidates can apply for the doctoral programme in Computer Science, Electrical, Chemical & Material and Mechanical engineering. The minimum qualification for the programme is a 2 year master’s degree in the relevant subject from a recognized institution. The highlights of the course are given below:
- Candidates applying for the Ph.D. programme at IIT Goa must have passed Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent from a recognised institute/university.
- Candidates who have completed B.E./B.Tech./MCA/M.Sc/ or equivalent from a recognised institute/ university are also eligible to apply for PhD in Engineering with a valid score in GATE examination or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR Fellowship.
- They must have scored minimum 60% marks or equivalant CGPA in the qualifying degree.
- Candidates with BTech with at least 8.0 CGPA from the IITs can apply without a GATE score.
- Admission to the course is based on the entrance test and interview conducted by the department.
- The tuition fee for the PhD at IIT Goa is INR 2,500 per semester.

The total fee for full-time Ph.D. program at IIT Goa is INR 55,200 for the first semester. This fee includes tuition fee, semester charges, one time admission fee and the deposits. The components of the total fees are as follows. Tuition Fee = INR 2,500 per semester One Time Fee = INR 9,600 Refundable Security Deposits = INR 3000 Semester Fee = INR 18,800 Mess Fee = INR 18,000 per semester Mess Advance = INR 2,000 Medical Insurance = INR 1,300 p.a. For Ph.D. in Engineering admission at IIT Goa, candidates must have either of the following qualifications:
- Passed Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent from a recognised institute/university with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.
- B.E./B.Tech./MCA/M.Sc/ or equivalent from a recognised institute/ university with a valid score in GATE examination or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR Fellowship.
- BTech with at least 8.0 CGPA from the IITs without any GATE score.
Candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PwD categories must have 55% marks in the qualifying degree.
