The Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi (IIIT Ranchi) is located in Namkum, Jharkhand. The Institute was established in 2016 with the goal of developing young talent and advancing innovative research. Together with three business partners Tata Technologies Limited, Tata Consultancy Services, and Central Coalfields Limited the Ministry of Education, the Government of India, and the Government of Jharkhand established the IIIT Ranchi, an Institute of National Importance. 

The Institute was established in compliance with the Ministry of Education's (MoE) proposal, which intends to use a public-private partnership model to construct 20 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). Under the direction of its Board of Governors, comprising members from academia, industry and government. In the fields of Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, they provide undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate degrees. Admission to these programs is determined by a student's performance on the National Level Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Mains).

• Admission to different programs is based on the eligibility requirements and the merit list in the university’s entrance exam.
• Entrance exams such as, JEE Mains, GATE, UGC-NET.
• To be eligible for the entrance exam, an applicant must register online at the university's website. 
• After paying the required annual tuition, the candidate will be provisionally admitted to the program based on their merit and if they meet the eligibility requirements.

IIIT Ranchi Infrastructure Facilities

The institute has sufficient infrastructure facilities. They provide great extracurricular activity options. The campus has a computer centre, dining halls and mess, canteens, a contemporary theatre and a library with bunches of books. 

The institute has modern classrooms and claims to have some of the best teaching tools available, and an exclusive library holds many books, sources to read. Modern infrastructure creates an engaging learning environment, and good teaching practices.

There are separate hostels for boys and girls, each with 120 rooms. The hostel has all the necessities, including purified water for drinking, a common area with a TV and phone, and round-the-clock security. The institute has collaborated with PARAS Hospital (HEC Dhurwa) in cases of medical needs of students and staff.

For those living within a radius of 70 kilometres around the Institute campus, the Institute owns and operates a dedicated bus service for students, instructors, and staff.
