The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research, Hyderabad commonly known as NALSAR is a Public Law Institution in the State of Telangana. It is regarded among the best Law Schools in India, with its consistent rank amongst the top law universities in the Country.

NALSAR is home to important conversations around law and justice. NALSAR was established in 1998 by a Statute of the State of Andhra Pradesh. The University is accredited with A++ by NAAC and also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). In the latest NIRF rankings of 2024, NALSAR has been ranked 3rd in the Law category, it has established itself as an esteemed law school.

In 2005 the Centre for Aerospace and Defence Laws (CADL)  was established to promote the development of aviation, space, maritime and defence laws and policies. NALSAR also has a Department of Management Studies established in the year 2013.

Jointly The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research offers a varied range of courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs. NALSAR is best known for its BA- LLB (Hons.) and LLM degrees, apart from that it offers courses like a Five-year integrated program in Management (IPM), an MBA program, and research programs like a year integrated LLM-PhD.

The admissions in programs offered by NALSAR are based on the CLAT exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. CLAT 2025 application forms are live, applicants can apply for the 2025 session.

The reasonable fee structure of NALSAR and the educational affiliations of the university makes it desirable for students. The average fee of a five-year BA LLB program is 1.5lpa.

The fee for PhD programs is 20,000.  

NALSAR has partnered with law firms and organizations to provide internships and placement to students. The major part of placement is managed by the student body catering to the varied interests of students coming from different specialization branches like Corporate Law, International trade & business laws and IPR. The student body at the UG level Recruitment Co-ordination Committee (RCC) and Postgraduate body  LL.M recruitment coordination committee (LRCC) overlook the functioning and governing of placements at NALSAR. In 2023 total 98 students from the five-year UG program out of 112 students ( As per NIRF 2024 report).

NALSAR Scholarship Programs

It has regulations for loans, scholarships, and fee concessions, and facilitates access to student loans from banks. The Central and State government funding and schemes ensure financial aid is provided to NALSAR students.

  •  The annual income of the parent of the student should not be more than 8,00,000 per annum.
  • BA LLB students should have at least 45% marks in 10+2 (45% for reserved).
  • LLM program students should have a minimum of 50% marks in graduation (45% for reserved).
  • In the case of MBA, candidates should have a minimum of 50% marks in their bachelor's.
  • IPM program students applying for scholarships must have 60% marks in 10+2 (50% for reserved category).
  • Candidates applying for scholarships in consequent years should have minimum passing marks.
  • The university also provides a merit-based merit scholarship to its students.
