The Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati was established in the year 2013 and is one of the twenty newly formed IIITs by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) running under Public-Private-Partnership (PPP). The institution is located in Bongora, Guwahati, Assam, the nearest airport to the institution is Guwahati Airport located 4 Km away from the college campus.

The institution offers a B.Tech at the undergraduate level and M.Tech at the postgraduate level along with a doctorate in philosophy. Admission to B.Tech courses is based on the marks obtained in the JEE Main entrance examination which is further followed by JoSAA counselling for the final seat allotment for the specialisations like Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science Engineering (CSE).

The institute has been spread over a campus of 67 acres, providing access to facilities like internet, accommodation, mess, sports, etc. IIIT Guwahati has made collaborations with some of the popular industry partners and educational institutions like MHRD, Government of Assam, TCS, Oil India Limited, and many more. During IIIT Guwahati Placements 2024, the institution witnessed participation from top recruiters like Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, Flipkart, Nvidia, DeltaX, Nvidia, and many more. A total of 109 job offers were made out of which 92 students secured final job offer. The highest package offered stood at INR 52 LPA, while the average salary offered was INR 14.88 LPA.

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati witnessed an overall placement percentage of 58.23% during its placement session in 2024. The highest salary was witnessed at INR 52 LPA for the Computer Science and Engineering branch, while the ECE programme witnessed the highest placement package of INR 28 LPA. The total number of students who participated in the placement drive was 158 from all the courses out of which 92 students got final selection letters from the recruiting companies. IIIT Guwahati Infrastructure Facilities

Student Accommodation: The institute provides separate hostel facilities for girls and boys with a capacity of accommodating 680 students in the boy's hostel and 170 in the girl's hostel. Each hostel has been provided with 24/7 security and wifi connectivity. Facilities like lift service, mess, and recreational spaces are also made accessible by IIIT Guwahati.

Library: Fully stocked library with a wide range of books and online learning sources. A total of 1,214 printed book volumes are currently available in the college library catering to the academic needs of the individuals with approx 218 journals and 3,698 conference proceedings. Hence, fostering an academically excellent environment while supporting research-based practices.

Sports Complex: The campus has an inbuilt badminton court, volleyball court, football ground, and cricket ground along with access to games like chess, carrom, and computer games to promote the physical well-being of the individuals.

Laboratories: Multiple labs have been set up in the institution to provide practical learning to its students enrolled in diverse courses. Some of the prime labs of IIIT Guwahati are electronics lab, signal processing lab, embedded systems lab, VLSI lab, and many more.
