Army Institute of Law Mohali (AIL): The Army Institute of Law, referred to as AIL Mohali was established in 1999 by the Indian Army under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) in Patiala. It moved to sector 68 Mohali in 2003, with a new campus inaugurated by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. 

AIL Mohali was founded to Provide students with top-notch legal education and professional training, Empower them to pursue careers in the Bar, Judicial Services, Civil Services, Armed Forces, Corporate Sector, and other organizations and Shape students into exemplars of dignity, and ethical and moral values, along with a strong sense of national pride. 

Army Institute of Law Mohali is affiliated to the Punjabi University Patiala, approved by the Bar Council of India and has been accredited with a ‘B’ grade by NAAC. AIL has a hierarchical governance functioning under the patronage of the Western Command, Chandimandir of the Indian Army. 

Out of all the seats, about 75% seats are reserved for Wards of Army personnel. The institute conducts its own national-level Law Entrance Test (LET) for admission to the BA LLB program, specifically for candidates from the Army and the All India Civil category. For those in the Punjab Resident Civil category, admissions are managed through centralized counseling by the university designated by the Department of Higher Education, Punjab.

Army Institute of Law Mohali has been ranked 30 in the law category by NIRF rankings 2024, previously it has been ranked 5th Best Private College in India by India Today, 5th Private Law College, All India by the Week Research Survey and 2nd Rank in Top Law Schools by State, Punjab by CSR-GHRDC Law Schools Survey-2020. 

AIL Mohali has a striking infrastructure with Air-conditioned classrooms, a Well-equipped moot courtroom, Air-conditioned seminar hall, Fully furnished auditorium, Extensive Knowledge Resource Centre and library featuring over 12,000 books and 6 electronic resources, two hostels (for boys and girls), Upgraded dining halls with duct cooling, Open and indoor gym facilities within the hostels, synthetic basketball courts and an indoor table tennis area and 1.44-acre sports complex.

AIL Mohali has a prolific placement record over the year, in 2024, 48 out of 79 students from the BA LLB program were placed with a median package of INR 6.1 LPA. Over the years AIL has recorded the highest CTC of INR 15 LPA in 2017 and INR 10 LPA in 2021.

AIL Mohali Courses: Eligibility and Fees

Army Institute of Law, Mohali offers BA.LLB and LLM courses in Law at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Admissions for both programs are done through the AIL National Level Law Entrance test.

Army Institute of Law (AIL) Mohali, offers options for placements to its graduating students. Students are encouraged to opt for a Placement drive, apart from placements students are supposed to complete a mandatory term of Internship as part of their curriculum. 

To oversee the smooth functioning of Internships and placements, The Placement Cell at the Army Institute of Law (AIL), Mohali has been established, which includes a Placement Officer and student members, plays a vital role in organizing internships and job placements for BA LLB and LLM students. 

This Cell collaborates with reputable law firms, corporate legal departments, banks, insurance companies, advocates, and various leading legal institutions to create career-oriented placement and internship opportunities through engagement activities that encompass seminars, webinars, professional sessions, workshops, and boot camps, aimed at fostering strong connections with the legal community in both litigation and corporate sectors.

Significant attention is given to career counseling, CV development, mock interviews, group discussions, and soft skills training to equip students for the corporate landscape as well as the litigation environment, helping them cultivate a confident and realistic persona.

Opting for placements is optional for students, in 2022,32 out of 79 students opted for placements and 26 students were placed. The highest CTC for the year was INR 10 LPA. Similarly, in 2023 total number of students placed was 48 with a median package of INR 6.1 LPA.
