National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam commonly referred to as NLUJAA is a national-level legal institution established in 2009 by the Government of Assam to make modern legal education available to students across the country. Established to facilitate the need for a legal institution in the North-East. The Honourable Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court acts as the Chancellor NLUJAA.
NLUJAA provides one year of compulsory induction training to newly recruited Judicial officers. Hence a Judicial Academy is a separate functional body in the University. The University receives liberal grants from the Government of Assam. It is recognized by the Bar Council of India.
The University spans an expansive 50 acres of picturesque landscape in Amingaon, Guwahati, located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, opposite a prominent hill. NLUJAA campus includes several key facilities like the Administrative Block, Academic Block, Boys Hostel, Girls Hostel, Library, Cafeteria, Power House, and a Multipurpose Indoor Hall equipped with sports facilities.
National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam is modeled on the lines of NLSIU, Bengaluru. It is a member of the Consortium of NLUs of the 24 National Law Universities established across the country. It offers the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five Year Integrated Course, LL.M. One Year Course and Ph.D. Program as prominent courses.
NLUJAA admits students through the CLAT examination, conducted across the country as an eligibility exam for all the National Law Universities (NLUs) by the Consortium of National Law Universities. CLAT 2025 is scheduled for 1st December 2024.
