National Law Institute University, Bhopal: The National Law Institute University located in Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh is one of the 26 National Law universities in India. The forerunner in Legal Education in India, the National Law Institute University, Bhopal was established in 1997 under a law passed by the Madhya Pradesh government to provide modern legal education. NLIU, Bhopal aims to teach new skills needed in the legal profession through a multidisciplinary approach. With the same aim, NLIU started its first academic program in 1998, the five-year BA.LLB (Hons.) course. 

NLIU, Bhopal has established itself as a distinguished Law institution of the country, it is ranked 21 by NIRF Rankings 2024 in the Law category. It has achieved some major accolades in just two decades, being in the top 50 Law institutes for three consecutive years. 

National Law Institute University offers a five-year BA.LLB program at the UG level and LLM at the PG level. Apart from these two prominent courses NLIU also offers BSc LLB, Master’s of Cyber Law and Information Security (MCLIS), PG Diploma courses and PhD programs. 

To secure a seat in NLIU candidates should have a valid CLAT ranking based on the university cut-off. CLAT is the eligibility exam for admissions to the National Law Institute University, Bhopal just like any other national Law Institute in the country. The fee per annum for a five-year BA.LLB course is approximately INR 1,46,000 per annum. The fee might differ from the second year. Apart from regular courses NLIU also offers few distance learning options. 

The National Law Institute University, Bhopal is recognized by the Bar Council of India and also the University Grants Commission( UGC).  NLIU has certain Memorandum of Understanding( MOU) with Universities abroad. The Student exchange program collaboration with CASRIP, Seattle, University of Warwick, UK, Rajshahi University in Bangladesh, National Academy of Direct Tax, Regional Campus, Bhopal, IIT Indore, National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics, RCPV Noronha Academy of Administration and Management, Bhopal and more.

Apart from the recognition from the Bar Council of India and UGC, NLIU is also a member of renowned organizations like the International Association of Law Schools, Asian Law Institute, Association of Indian Universities (AIU), and the Consortium of NLUs.

NLIU students have been continuously placed at esteemed organizations like Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Trilegal, Varahe Analytics and more. In the academic year of 2023, NLIU recorded 85% placement with an average package of INR 5.5 LPA.

NLIU Courses, Eligibility and Fees 2025

National Law Institute University, Bhopal offers an array of courses pertaining to Legal Studies. NLIU undertakes students based on the CLAT score. It functions on the guidelines of the Consortium of NLUs and the Bar Council of India. 

NLIU Admissions 2024 is closed, and the notification for CLAT 2025 is out. The last date of registration for CLAT 2025 is 15th October 2025. Candidates can apply online.

NLIU Admissions 2025 

National Law Institute University, Bhopal is part of the Consortium of NLUs and the admissions NLIU are based on the CLAT examination conducted by the Consortium every year for admissions of students under various UG and PG courses in the realm of Legal Studies.

NLIU Placements 2025

National Law Institute University, Bhopal has established itself as one of the prestigious law institutions in the country. NLIU has been working towards providing placement opportunities to its students through its established Placement Coordination Committee (PCC).

NLIU students have been placed at some prestigious law firms and corporate firms across the country and abroad. BA.LLB students were placed with a median salary of INR 16 LPA in the academic year of 2023, similarly, LLM students were placed with a median package of INR 8.5 LPA in the same academic year.  A few major recruiters at NLIU were Shell India, KPMG India, EY, Deloitte, and law firms like Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, and others.

NLIU Scholarships 2025

The National Law Institute University (NLIU) is committed to supporting talented students and not letting financial Constraints hinder their education. To achieve the goal of equal education rights for every student, the university offers Scholarship assistance to its students.

NLIU introduced two Merit cum Means Scholarships; one in honor of the late Justice J. S. Verma and another named after the university itself. These scholarships provide a full waiver of tuition fees for the entire course duration.

In the first year, the scholarships are awarded to students with the highest marks in the CLAT exam after successfully being admitted to NLIU,Bhopal. For subsequent years, from the second to the fifth year, scholarships are given to students who achieve the highest marks in annual examinations, without repeated attempts. However eligibility for the above-mentioned scholarships requires more than just academic excellence, students must also have a parental income that does not exceed a limit set by the university.
