Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was established in 1984 by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust as the first self-financing Engineering College. In 1989, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital was founded by the trust. Under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital was initially acknowledged by MHRD as a Deemed to be University in July 2002. 

It was then placed under the new trust of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER). Afterwards, the Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) took over the responsibilities of the Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the other institutes listed below:

• Sree Balaji College of Nursing, Chennai
• Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), Chennai
• Sree Balaji College of Physiotherapy
• Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SLIMS), Pudhucherry

The University is accredited with NAAC A grade. As per the NIRF ranking 2023, the university has ranked 66th position with 46.91 score. Additionally, according to the QS World Rankings 2024, the university is placed 601-650 and recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC). Moreover, 51000+ alumni are spread across the globe.

• Admission to different programs is based on the eligibility requirements and the merit list in the university’s entrance exam.
• Entrance exams such as, BEEE, NATA. 
•  To be eligible for the entrance exam, an applicant must register online at the university's website. 
• After paying the required annual tuition, the candidate will be provisionally admitted to the program based on their merit and if they meet the eligibility requirements.

More than 450 recruiters from a variety of industries visit Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University), offering a broad range of opportunities. As per the placement record of 2023, the maximum salary was INR 27,00,000 per annum  and average salary was INR 4,50,000 per annum..
