Indian Coast Guard Exam Pattern 2023: The selection of candidates for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is based on their performance in all four stages of the Coast Guard Enrolled Personnel Test (CGEPT) and medical examination, as well as the number of vacancies available for the post. The detailed selection process for Indian Coast Guard Navik GD & DB & Indian Coast Guard Yantrik has been explained below in this article. 

Thus, candidates must perform well in all four stages of the CGEPT and pass the medical examination in order to be considered for Indian Coast Guard Recruitment 2023. The final selection will be based on the all-India order of merit, which is determined by the candidate's performance in all four stages of the CGEPT.

All candidates must have their identity verified before the commencement of each stage of examination (Stage- I, II, III) of CGEPT. The identity check will include verification of candidates’ photograph, biometric, signature & identification mark (as mentioned in the online application form) at all stages of the ICG selection process.

Indian Coast Guard Selection Process 2023 

The selection process & exam pattern for Indian Coast Guard Navik (General Duty & Domestic Branch) and Indian Coast Guard Yantrik has been explained below:

Stage I: Computer Based Examination

All applicants, regardless of their desired position, must take this written exam, which is the first step in the recruitment process.

Stage I will involve the following examinations: 

Document Verification

Document verification is done at Stage I. The candidate's identity is checked against the details filled in the online application. The candidate must carry the following documents at the time of document verification:

• Valid original identity proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID card, driving license, or passport) as submitted/uploaded in the online application.
• One colored printout of the E-admit card (black and white printouts are not allowed).
• Two passport-size color photographs with similar facial features as uploaded in the online application.
• For SC/ST applicants only: Original category certificate, two photocopies of the self-attested SC/ST certificate, original train/bus ticket, cancelled cheque leaf for NEFT payment, and travel form downloaded from the website for claiming travel allowance (TA).

Biometric Recording

• Candidates who pass the biometric verification test at Stage I will have their biometrics recorded. 
• The biometric data collected at Stage I will be verified or re-recorded at the subsequent four stages (Stage II, Stage III, and Stage IV). 
• If a candidate's biometrics are re-recorded at Stage II, the re-recorded biometric data will be used for Stage III and Stage IV.

Computer Based Examination

Note: In the examination, objective-type questions will be asked and there will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. The detailed syllabus for all the 4 sections is available on the official ICG website. 

Stage II: Adaptability Test, Physical Fitness Test & Initial Medical Examination

Candidates who clear the first stage will be invited to the second stage. During the second stage, candidates will be required to appear for a physical fitness test, document verification, and an initial medical examination.

Stage II will last for 1-2 days and will involve the following examinations which are only qualifying in nature: 

Assessment/Adaptability Test

• Biometric-verified candidates will appear for an OMR test. Results will be announced in an hour of the conduct of the test. 
• Only those who pass will proceed to the next phase, that is, the physical fitness test. 

Physical Fitness Test

Candidates who will undergo the physical fitness test (PFT) shall do so at their own risk. All candidates must wear sports attire, including shoes, a t-shirt, and pants.

The PFT consists of the following:

• 1.6 km run (to be completed in 7 mins)
• 20 squat ups
• 10 push-ups

Note: Candidates must pass all three PFT tests in one sitting.

Document Verification

All information in the online application must match the original documents provided by the candidate at the time of document verification.

Initial Medicals Examination

• During this stage, the medical officer may declare the candidates as Fit/ Permanently unfit/ Temporarily unfit
• If a medical officer declares a candidate permanently or temporarily unfit, the candidate can appeal the decision within 21 or 42 days, respectively. Only specialist opinions from military hospitals are admissible during the appeal

Final Merit List for Stage III

ICG will verify documents submitted by candidates and only those who pass and are medically fit will be considered for merit list preparation, which will be based on Stage-I marks and available vacancies.

Stage III: Provisional Merit List & Final Medical Examination 

Candidates who pass Stage I and Stage II and are ranked in the top positions based on the available vacancies will be provisionally shortlisted for training at INS Chilka and will be given a provisional e-admit card. 

Stage III will last for 1-2 days and will involve the following examinations:

Document Verification

All information in the online application must match the original documents provided by the candidate at the time of document verification.

Final Medical Examination at INS Chilka

• The final medical examination of selected candidates is done at INS Chilka
• The conduct of final medicals will depend on the time gap between the appeal medical examination and the reporting date at INS Chilka
• Candidates who fail the final medical examination will not be enrolled in training

Original Documents Submission & Police Verification

• Police verification is required for enrolment
• Candidates must submit original documents, police verification forms, and other forms with their E-admit card at Stage III
• The police verification report must be obtained from either the candidate's domicile or place of present residence after the last date of application submission
• Candidates without verified police verification report or reports with adverse comments will not be eligible for enrolment.

Stage IV: Final Document Verification

The Indian Coast Guard will verify the originality of all original documents submitted by trainees at INS Chilka during Stage III through their respective boards/universities/state governments. If any document is found to be fake, the trainee will be discharged from the service.
